Ship Modelling Problem

I'm using gmax to make a ship, and i'm having one problem, if i select a vertex and try to move it into the rest of the ship to make an indent, the vertex moves, but it still looks the same

I'm having the same problem with extruding, when I extrude a negative number (so it goes the other way, in not out) it still looks the same

any help would be appreciated

why is there a need to input the number, useing the move and cursor will do the trick. if you'll looking for maximum control then input it in, if not try a positive number and have you double checked which axis you are moving the vertex along?

how many vertices do you have on this ship?

if you have quite alot you wont notice the difference. Also there are some setting which you might be able to change. have you put a smoothing modfier on your ship? if so this would also effect it, post a screenshot it would help.

Phycho your moving it on the Y axis, which would appear like a mess imho, move it into the ship along the X axis. (if thats the desired effect to get a dent.) Also turn off the smoothing modifer, its best to work with flat shaded first and when your done then apply the smoothing to check appearance, as freelancer does use smoothing.
