Freelancer Advanced Pilot Calculation

Dear Modders:
A while back, I fired up Freelancer after more than a year of absence to pick up where I left off. I'm using an old saved game I still have where I just finished the SP missions and am cut loose. I have loaded up the Real Space Lite 1.0 mod along with TNG 1.70. I am using the 1.1 patch from MS. Here's something strange I noticed: when I press F8 to see my rank, I am level 34 with a worth of about 4 mil and am currently on Freeport 10. I have 38 missions completed (these are the job computer missions). My next level requirements says "Mission." This makes no sense to me since I am done with the SP campaign and have no idea why to level up my requirement is "mission." I also cannot take any jobs from the bar computers in any of the border world or highly dangerous world stations. It says to come back when I'm a more advanced pilot. So, I decided to do some editing and find the calculation for this bizarre anamoly I have been stricken with. Checking the saved game file, I notice a value for rank, and change that to 90. I now try getting a mission from Freeport 10: no dice, same message. I then find a stack of variables called "rm_mission" towards the middle of the file. Apparently, these are counters for how many random job computer missions you take. If you add up the number to the right of the comma, you get your total from your character profile F8 key. I increased those values by 200 and tried getting a job again: still no luck. At this point, I tried reinstalling and not using the 1.1 patch from MS as the forums told me to try that. Still no luck. Finally, I find a section in the saved game file with the header [StoryInfo. Under this section is a value "Mission_Num". It is at 41. I change it to 61 {this is the only change I make to the file, I leave rank and rm_missions just the way I found them}. Now I load up my saved game on Freeport 10 -->Success! I can take jobs in the deadly systems now. No more "advanced pilot" crap.

So, I found the calculation, now to find how to increase that number.

I change the value back to 41, loaded up the game, flew to Kusari space, and did three bar computer missions. When I checked the value again, it had not increased over 41. This is very strange.

So my question is this: does anybody know how this value changes over time in the course of the game? Why does my next level up requirement remain fixed on "Mission" even though the SP campaign is done? How can I increase my "skill as a pilot" so that I can do the mission on Malta, Crete, and the Freeport stations without editing this value (which would be cheating)?

Thanks in advance.

Did you pick up a mission before you stopped playing but did not complete it?

I do not believe so. This was almost one year ago to the day but regardless, I don't think it would matter since when I reloaded the saved game, the mission should have come up. This is really bothering me since I am pretty much "stuck" and cannot keep playing the game as my rank will never increase and my "pilot status" will never change meaning I will never be able to take the most high level missions. I mean, I can always cheat and edit this "Mission_Num" value, but that would ruin the fun.

Here's the other thing, I went ahead and loaded up some old untouched saved games, and when I loaded them up, it said to raise my next level I needed a mission. These saves are also post-SP campaign. The ones I've opened pre-SP completion seem to work correctly. Only the ones after you are cut loose seem to be experiencing this problem. By mission, could it mean I need more missions from the bar computer? If so, why would this "Mission_Num" HEX value not change incrementally?

If your playing SP, I thought there was a limit of 39 or 40 anyway?

There is a rank cap at 38 in SP. However, TNG 1.7 sets it at 90. Regardless, my current rank is 34 so I should still be able to level up. Wierd no?
