Help Us Make "Capture the Flag Mod"

Hello,

I know many people are dying for a version of this game for freelancer. Multiplayer gets old unless there is clan competition. We have deathmatch, but we need another type of gameplay. We need a mod that will allow "Capture The Flag" type of game play. I understand that we're limited to what we can do because of Microsoft's non-release of sourcecode, but here's what we need.

**Game Play**
-A system that has two planets. The flag is located near their home planet.
-Players must grab opponents flag and return it to their home planet by docking. This gives them a point.
-When someone dies, they lose the flag and it goes back to where you can retrieve it. In multiplayer, it isn't possible to drop items on death yet.
-System is clear of non-human players.

**Task List**
-creation of the system is easy. Having two planets and a sun is very easy to make.
-creating a "new" item, the flag, can be easily, but to have it respawn when lost? can we do this?
-if someone takes the "flag" to their homebase, can we "score" a point ?

I'm sure we can assign tsr programs or create a totally new variable set, but I hope someone is able to see how this can be done and make it. Please let me know.

well, you could make the flags as empty commodities, and it give you 1 credit when you sell it. Get 1 person from each team to buy one flag from thier planet (costs nothing?) everyone start the fight with no credits, so the team with the most credits, wins, novel idea!
youd have to have admins, to make sure ppl didnt dock at the planet, to buy flags and sell em

definetly a great idea, needs working on tho

IMHO, this is one of the greatest ideas I've heard. One suggestion though, the system should have more than *just* 2 planets and a sun. There is such a large library of things you could put in your system, why neglect it?

just a little idea:
instead of just using two palnets, make the system fairly small, add in things like asteroid fields and Nebulae, then make each team CHOSE where to put there falg, dump it there, so that each team has to go and find their opponents flag, then return it to their home planet.....

just a thought...

For that, you might have difficulty. However, it can be aboard two wrecks instead - where it can only be looted. It can regenerate the wrecks cargo if the visit = line is at 0 or 1 (cannot remember). That way - it can only be got once rather than tons of times. Of course - you can have many wrecks containing the "flag" around the bases/planets of your opponents though - so it can be sought from more than one location. Also - you could make it sell at your base for a high value, so that the reward is money for the clan - whereas if its lost - you get nothing obviuosly - but repair bills........

Great Idea, you could have more than two teams, each with their own commodity that sells at the opponents bases for loads of money,

i dont know if its possible but you could get the wrecks to spawn in different places each time

Not so sure about that, but you can make it so that the wrecks loadouts can be changed each time. only prob is that you will need to reboot the server for the effects to take place.

ive got an idea as kee tF said have more things in the system, also (this might change it from capture the flag to hide and go seek ) make the wrecks in hidden places with lots of obsticles in the ways and you have a homebase and you goto get as many wrecks as you can by a time limit then see how much U get at the end (make the sell amount 1 credit)

btw do you set how long it takes a wreck to respawn?cause if you could you could put that into it somehow

and also ive got a question... how come you can only get a wreck once or twice and could you change that?

ooh ooh another idea

make a system like a maze or a race track, that would be cool too

lol - i made a MP system that has a race track, gauntlet, 2 fight arenas, a large base to blow up (with nomads attacking you), and also an area where you can get level 19 missions against many pirate factions

I made it for a clan about 3 weeks ago, but have heard of nothing since!! lol

Capture the flag is indeed an good idea but it's not easy to do, since we can't really make sure the "flag" goes back when the carrier dies. Also, how to determine if the enemy team have our team's flag or not, the score can't just base on who can get into enemy space and grab something.

Peace doesn't exist between the livings, but the dead.

I'm glad I posted this message to have everyone's input and brainstorming. I like the wreck idea. I have no problem restarting the computer after a team grabs an idem. I would think that we can find a way without rebooting to replenish the wreck. If it is a variable, then we can write a TSR to manipulate the "wreck cargo" variable in real time from 0 to 1. Since we dont have the source code, we can still run programs to watch changes via assembly language. I hope I'm making sense to some programmers out there when I mention this.

I would also be interested in that "arena mod" with the racetrack. Someone hook me up with a link to download it?

One more thing, which kind of seems obvious, but no one mentioned: put weapons platforms around the flag. Also, if you always have one of your men guarding your flag, then he would be able to tell you if the enemy got it.
