Editing Ship Weapon Hardpoints

Hello, I was hoping someone here more experienced in the mystical ways of Freelancer modding could provide me with a brief description of how one would go about editing the two class 9 weapons hardpoints on the Corsair Titan to class 10 hardpoints, and if any sort of modding program is necessary for this operation.

Go to the data file in Freelancer game. data/ships/shiparch. use the edit/ search function to find - co_elite2 and add - hp_type = hp_gun_special_10, HpWeapon01, HpWeapon02, HpWeapon03, HpWeapon04, HpWeapon05, HpWeapon06

adding , HpWeapon05 or which ever is missing and they all will be lv10.

Inoc - as he said, exactly right, but for future reference - look up the top into the stickies, and you will see two threads - newbie questions look no further 1 & 2. The number 2 thread has an index to number one thread - so that will help you find everything that you need. It might take some patience to read through them, but the time it takes to do that is ALOT less than waiting for answers......

Thank you both very much... but I've got one problem. A significant chunk of the file simply appears as gibberish when I open it... Can I assume this is simply a problem with my computer?

Download the Bini editor Bini install it to the mods folder and then copy it to any subfolder you need. Once there, click on and hold the file (shiparch) and drag onto the bini and it will convert it to a text file. I open this and select all and copy. Then open the shiparch file. Hilite it all and click paste. You will then have a workable shiparch file.

The Bini file shows like a exe file when it installed. it does not open to a program. When you drag a file onto it, it creates a text file in the same folder. My screen flickers for 1 sec and I have the new file. Chips, can you provide any additional help?

There doesn't seem to be anything to install, it just shows up as it is. I move it into a folder along with the shiparch file, do as you say, and nothing happens. I click and hold the shiparch file, move it onto the Bini and nothing happens. I than click any button "to continue" as the bini seems so fond of displaying at all times, and still nothing happens.

Sorry to be a bother... I must be doing something wrong, because 4 gig should not be working as poorly as mine would be, if I am in fact doing everything correctly.

If all else fails, could you perhaps send me a workable shiparch file at my email address? [email protected]

Sorry to be a bother, and thank you for your help. I've made almost four dozen mods myself for other games, and I really hope to be able to make one for Freelancer before I move onto other things, lol

Thank you both for your help! Having received the appropriate files, everything seems to be working fine.

I was just hoping to ask one more question... using Chips' tutorial, I've added the Kusari Gunboat and am now trying to get the Bretonian Gunboat working. I've done everthing outlined in the tutorial, of course adapting for a different type of gunboat, but when I go the Leeds ship dealer, in place of the Bretonian Fighter is... nothing. Only two ships are now sold, with the third berth vacant. Is there any advice anyone might have regarding such a situation?

In the Marketships.ini file, use the edit/find function and search fot the ship you want. Remember it will be abriviated lf_package example. When you find the planet/system its on, highlite and do a copy/paste deal to it putting it in the system/planet/base you want.

Right. I pasted the package I made for the Br Gunboat over the Bretonian Light Fighter, and now... all Bretonian planets that sold the Light Fighter, no longer do... so, Leeds for example, only sells the Clydesdale and the Pirannha, the berth were the Light Fighter (now supposed to be gunboat) would be is simply empty.

Inoc, If the ship in question is large, it will apear to not be there. See if you can buy it and the go to launch. It should show on the lauch pad, if too big, it wil show in space.

I'm aware of that. The Kusari Gunboat has the lower part of it merge with the ground, only the upper part shows through. The Rheinland counterpart is even weirder... it isn't there, and it isn't available for sale at all. I'm not a complete incompitent. But, I know I've followed both your instructions, Chips', and those of another Freelancer fan that I know else where (I believe he is known as Caid here) and nothing has changed. I do have a great deal of modding experience, having made more than three dozen mods for five or six different games... so when I say I'm following these instructions, I mean it. I'm trying out a few of his suggestions, so I'll either I'll figure it out or drop it, and move on to making changes more condusive of... success, lol.

But thank you all the same.
