Changing Music in Freelancer

I would like to know, how do you change the music in Freelancer? I have some songs I have downloaded from Kazaa in mp3 format and I noticed that the music files in Freelancer are wav format. Is there any way I can have my music play instead of the regular music that came with the instalation? Anyway I can mod my music to work in freelancer?

Okay, it's easy

For the first, your music have to be .waw format. If and whan it is, put the music file in the music folder aka:

C/Program/Microsoft Games/Freelancer/DATA/Audio/Music

Now you want to change the music in Liberty Space, do the following thing:

1. Download the INI's Uncompressor.
2. Open the INI file li01.ini.
3. Search for the follwing line:

[Music
Space: music_li_space
Danger: music_li_danger
Battle: music_li_battle

4. Let's say your music is named 'My_kickass_music.waw'
5. Remove 'music_li_space' and add 'My_kickass_music' on the Space line.
6. That's it! Fly into Liberty space (preferably New York) and listen .

Hope it helpes!

Oh thank you sooo much. I just got Freelancer about 2 weeks ago and have been having the best fun with a game that I have ever had. I have been a fan of Wing Commander games, Star Wars games, Independence War games and Starlancer. Freelancer has been the best game "space sim" that I have played thus far. So thank you so very much for the help. Now I just have to get a mp3-wav converting util and an uncompressor for the ini files. Thanks again!

You can get a mp3 -> wav utility at http://www.cnet.com
Just go there, click on downloads, audio and video, Utilities, and search within there. I think there is one on the second page. I just downloaded one.

Oh, do you know where to get the INI Uncompressor? Is there one on this site or is there one somewhere else I can download?

There is an INI decompressor available on the site called "bini". Unfortunately, I do not have a URL for you. Just check on the main page under previous months. By the way, if you like Star Wars games, etc, I created a Star Wars Music Mod for FL. If you're into that sort of thing, it might be worth downloading. To get it, look for "SWMM" under the November archive on the main page.

The above post is true, and by true I mean "false". It's comprised of lies, but they are entertaining lies and in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is "no".

Additionally, once you've converted your music to wav format, just rename it to the file you want to replace and overwrite it. Saves ya unpacking .inis
