Converting 3d files

I have TONS of 3d ship files, ranging from the "green bug" from red dwarf to virtually every starwars/star trek/babylon5/Homeworld1+2/Freespace etc ship there is! Problem is I have Lightwave and Milkshape 3d and the ships are all 3d Studio Max well I have a couple in Lightwave So I guess what I am really asking is how do I get a ship from 3D Studio Max, or Lightwave for that matter into a format Freelancer will recognise as a valid ship? I am trying to get into 3d model design and as such have,

Adobe Photoshop 7
Paint Shop Pro 7
Flash 5 + MX (I do web design as well)
Lightwave 7
Milkshape 3D

So all I need is time and practice, but practice is no good if you dont know what u are doing LOL so any help would be appreciated. All work I do I would gladly share with anyone Once I finish my mod I will upload it for all who want it. I am basically tring to get HUNDREDS of new ships into the game, usefull for LAN games

I take it you downloaded most of these off the net ?

It will not help you learn 3d model making unless you make them your self.

However, I will say 99.999999% of all downloadable models on the net are not low poly models and thus useless to you if your modding for a game. However any low poly max or lightwave model will important into milkshape just fine.

For lightwave 7 the second lwo import option works best. For max its 3ds.

Yeh I got them off the Net, but they are not low polly, they are HIGHLY detailed, so to big for online play, but ok for LAN. I do plan on making my own ships, but I got those files so I could see their maeup and try2 disect them, thats how I started on web design, now i can do Flash, cgi, php and DHTML Cheers for the help
