Anyone looking to help mod ships? Element ships...

I wanted to make some ships, based on the Periodic table of elements.

Geeky, yes, but wouldnt you like to see a freighter called the Lurithenium (0r whatever it is called) or a VHF called the Plutonium? just a neat thought...

But im still learning how to mod with milkshape Dont know how to import to freelancer though.

If any help could come by thanks in advance.

cheers!

<scratches head>
why not just rename the existing ships?

Post Wed Nov 12, 2003 11:01 pm

thats a good idea, but wouldnt it be better if we kind of altered the old ships a bit? eg. add a wing on the liberty... oh, nevermind

SO is anyone interested in helping?

I could help, though my modeling skills aren't too good

Have you got another modeling tool? Using Milkshape is a pain, Maya or Lightwave or Max are much easier (yeah, like we all have a couple of thousand dollars to spend;-))

Sorry about the delay
Milkshape is just about impossible to use for this task
Those other programs cost from about $300 - $15000 (AUD)
There are free ones (gmax, doga) but exporting options are limited (BTW, if anyone finds a dxf/3ds/obj/lwo exportor ("Gamepack" for GMAX I would appreciate it)

The Ship Tutorial in the Tutorial Forum teaches you how to add hardpoints and texture, so if you want to offload the modelling to others and do this yourself I'd be happy to help

OMG! 15000 for a stupid videogame modler!!!! For that price, i could BUY a whole team of experts to do the job for me!

thanks for the moral support. *sigh* maybe this could just be an idea for others?

Here's something that might make you feel better, the one that is $15000 is really, really top end (think SW:AOTC or LOTR:TT type CG work). I personally use a version of Truespace I got free on a magazine cover CD for most of my CG work. This isn't too great but it beats milkshape. I'm sure you could find something like this if you look around.

Or just post more ideas/concept sketches etc. in this forum. I'll see what I can do and what others help with

In the downloads section you will find a link to the CMP importer. Unfortunately it doesn't import hardpoints

I have started modeling a prototype of the Heavy fighter Plutonium, with it's Rad Gun, Rad Cannon, Rad Turret and Sizzler Beam (names are work in progress)

cool Ive been busy lately, but Ill try and work on that.

Ive also thought of a few good names that associate with Plutonium.

One gun should have the name Berkley in it, as it was discovered in Berkley California. (e.g. burkley ray)

Another should have the name Atomic in it, as it was used in the atomic bomb. (atomic ray)

Ill come up with more ideas soon. What do you think so far?

Sorry again for the delay, I've been upgrading my PC

Ideas sound pretty cool. Here's a new one. How about a weapon that is mountable only on all of the ships in this mod, named after the creator of the periodic table?
