Custom factions and FLE

How do i make my custom faction work with FLE. I've activated the mod, and it doesn't come up in the drop-down lists for the selection of factions. Are the factions pre-programmed into FLE, and do I need to add code to FLE for my new faction? What do I need to do to make my faction work with FLE?
