Help on a MOD...

Hi all lancers!
I and a friend (on the forums here he is known as Xzim) are making a MOD for Freelancer, to add systems, bases, planets, ships, commodities, mines, guns, turrets, new type of weapon platforms, deathmatch systems and nations.

We are just two guys, so if someone are interested, just reply here, these are the things we need help with:

1. Adding new systems, we are gonna' add over 20 new systems.
2. Adding ships. I don't know anything about this, please someone respond on this one.
3. Guns and turrets. We want to add new special and faction-guns like the Black Naga Volcano MK I, MK II and MK III, and the EMP Turret.
4. Names! We don't know how to add new names, does someone know how to do this?
5. The Weapons Platforms we are goning to add is:
*Wasp Naga Weapon Carrier
*Centuri A and B Weapons Carrier
*Battleship Defender

Hopes that someone will respond!

Well - good luck with the systems - its not the amount, its the playability that counts with systems.

For ships - if you can model them - then go for it, if you cannot, then best off asking permission to use peoples models that you like. It is easy then to put these into your mod - a case of copy and paste, then also do your info into the dll tables

For the names - you will need a UTF editor and a quick visit to the newbie 2 thread. In there i have listed empty ids numbers in several dlls for use. Also - for how to acutally do it, see the tutorials forum where i have recently answered that question on giving factions new names.

it doesn't have 20 systems though only 4 - but lots of other things

However, the reason for these forums is not just for friendly banter with a faceless chum, but to get help if you need it. Just ask - but prefereably ina way that outlines what you are doing - ie, not 'how can i put ships into the game' but more along the lines of, 'okay, i have a ship with its mat files, CMP etc etc and other stuff, how do i make that into a flyable ship - it is apparently FL ready, it just needs putting into the game'.

That sort of question will get you an easier response as people will know exactly what you are after. Saves them answering what they thought you asked!

(okay - so that didn't help much, but you questions were very vague - basically i pointed you to where those answers you seek are, and let you fiddle - MUCH more satisfying when you get the hang of it! Just make sure you back your mod up after every successful addition - as you never know when it will go t**s up!)

I can help, as far as INI's go, (weapons, ships), and the sytems. I can do all the names
AND new infocards. I can do bases, and planets, but i haven't figured out docking
rings yet. I can do weapons, as long as you tell me which models to use. As for
modeling... well... not me. E-mail me if you could use my help. I also wont be able to
help with the weps platforms.

Well. If you got some good looking ship models ( i mean poly count is high, detailed, not nearly a naked cube ) and a base texture for them (to see how it fits, which part where is, see where engines are, glass surfaces) you may send it to me and I could try to make a skin for it.

I cannot make models. That's why i need a base-coat or something like that to orientate my work. The base skin must be added to the model. Even better when you already have a MAT file too. TGA or DDS textures, i don't care.

If you need me, and i have time too, i am pleased to make it for you.
