STARFYRESPAWN: the mimic

SPAWN:

You wrote

(Read the thread idiot, i said i RECREATED THEM to match the original models to learn, they are in fact mimics, but not the defacto downlaoded models ( most of which i could not load in the 3d app i use, ) i used essentially blue prints of the geometry. Now how is that ripping, its remodeling, and its one of the easier ways to learn)
******************

before you start flaming perfectly good modelers who create there own stuff from scratch I suggest you (read the thread)

http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/forum/t ... c_id=24994

in this thread on page 2 Reynen clearly states this

***********
5: I have recently found out some people have stolen our models and our claiming then as their own. Here are SOME examples of the models spawn has created himself. (THIS IS NOT A FULL COMPILATION)
**************

now I realize this will open me up for your disrespectable flaming but nighthawk is a good friend as is Micheal Stetson, Matt Tarlings and Stefan May the people who created the original models you have (recreated / mimicked) now I am not going to argue whether you did in fact mimic the models you may well have done. However I will say the textures you have used look exactly the same as the original ones. Did you mimic those as well?

It seems strange how all this MS stuff started cos Starfyre studios wanted to copyright the stuff you said you had all made by yourselves so others couldn’t steal from your mod, I hope this doesn’t include these ships, since if it does then by all means copyright your stuff, then all other modders need to do is mimic the code or models and place it into there mod then they too can call them their own stuff.

If I made a game that mimicked freelancer down to the designs and detail of the skins but called it startrader I would still be sued for copyrighting there original idea.

So before you start calling these models yours I suggest you e-mail the above mentioned modelers and ask there pomission before converting them and copyrighting them in your own name. since this could really end you up in trouble since I know for a fact that Stefan may has a copyright license for his models including the hammerhead since he got permission from the creators of SAAB:

Now I would not generally make a post like this but I have been around for a while and this kind of thing really does annoy me, as a modeler myself I take great pride in what I create and I know if you Mimicked one of my ships and called them your own I would be really pissed.

nope not going too. those ships in the above image are clearly his own designs and look good (unless someone knows otherwise), credit given where it is due. this was simply a chance for spawn to further his comment. if he has indeed mimicked / copied stefan's original model then hes has done a fantastic job and well done to him. i was just pointing out without some proof it's abit hard to believe. heres a pic of stefans model and spawn mimics, people can make there own minds up.

GAG,

I want to see the date of the ligtwave models that THIS supposedly guy created. Then we shall see who created what first.

Spawn created these ships MONTHS ago. If you doubt me, asked BAKEDPOTATO.

He was shown these models back in MAY.

ALot of people are jsut stealing out stuff and then reskining them and re-releasing them.

I think from now on we are POSTING OUR WORK as soon as we finish it so that no one can dispute it.

They do look alike, but seeing the dates of creation would determin who made it first.

being an relatively experienced 3d modeler, I have to say that if spawn did create that himself, I congratulate him. It is basically an exact replica from the viewpoints given. If it is real, that's some extreme skills. If it's not, Spawn is quite a SOAB.

I'm STILL waiting for the poster and / or the creator HE mentioned to send proof of creation date. Until we receive that, they are spawn's design, unless they can provide proof of creation before the beginning of may.

Bakedpotato, would you like to confirm that I have indeed shown you these models many months ago.

i dont know if the dates on the images would show anything as the only image that really holds the correct dates are the originals and as neither is an original then we cant compare.... however the following text is an exctract from a the LW3D.Org

***********************
Due to a request on the B5MG forums for help with the conversion of a 3DS Project file of the SAAB Hammerhead fighter - I downloaded the file and textures - converted the mesh as best as possible - tidied up the mesh for Lightwave - re-applied the texture maps and added some Lightwave texturing pecularities - and the result is that here it is now for your enjoyment!--I'm gonna have to make my own version of this mesh one day purely for Lightwave - if anyone would like to see that happen - well keep nagging me and you never know eh? :-)
Mesh originally created for 3DSMAX by Stefan May in 1996/97 -
Converted into Lightwave format and optimised for lightwave By F.Passaro - May 2000
***************************

this clearly shows that the model in question i believe was cleared made by stefan in 1996 along time before MAY this yr i believe.

Spawn has been showing me samples of the ships he was working on for many months now. These pictures and many more were among some of the artwork Spawn was working on and also Spawn told me what program he was using and how he was doing it because I was interested in learning from Spawn how to work with graphic programs.

Post Thu Oct 09, 2003 10:10 pm

Just to clarify a piont pls BP but when you say "showing me samples of the ships he was working on for many months now. These pictures and many more were among some of the artwork Spawn was working on" do you mean you have actually seen the models being created (which is whats at question) or simply images and artwork of ship similar to those shown above? and if you wouldnt mind answering which package is he using to create them?

Post Thu Oct 09, 2003 11:08 pm

hm.. well, there are one or two differences in the pictures: 1) spawn's pic shows better textures.
2) one of the most notice-able differences is where the name of the pilot is written: on spawns pic you see a lighter area around the name. (btw, here is a tip to any modeler out there: write your name in the nametag on the ship, so you know when someone copies it - it's not 100% secure, though)
3) on the thruster intake ports, directly under the wings, if you look at the original model, you see that there is a hard edge, on spawn's pic you don't see this (might be due to the angle though)

now all of the above might have been optimisations that fabio passaro made, or it's spawns work (as i don't know the fabio-model, i can't judge here. I can only provide some insight)

To clarify what I was talking about is this, Spawn would come on team speak and we would talk. I got interested in the ships Spawn was working on and how to work with the programs he was using. Lightwave, Milkshape and another program were mentioned but I don't remember the name of the last one. He would then upload images of the ship he was working on at the time to his web site and give me a link to look at the pictures. He would start out with a frame and then add textures or panels or color, whatever you want to call it to the frame and ask me what I thought of the ship so far. Allot of the time I told him what I thought of the ship and what color I thought would look good on the ship and we talked about the polly count and how to bring it down to acceptable size. We talked about other things related to modding and other things in general of course.

Both models are quite pretty... I say its time for a beauty pagent.. lol...

I've seen the top image before at the site...... but i've also seen the other one too... so I'm gonna say they look really good. But I'm gonna say that Spawn in pretty damn good at what he does....

Reynen the fact was never who created what first but who created what. I think 1997 beats May 2003. after all the flaming in posts lately I would have thought you had learned to read threads properly before posting

Since Bakedpotato is an admin I will take his word for it. If he believes spawn has infact recreated the model then that is good enough for me. Maybe in the mods readme you should add a note because I know a lot of people out there have used Stefan’s models for renderings and animations or such ( including me which is why I brought the subject up ) and someone else may bring it up again.

I would also like to add a note. To the way people have replied to this subject. With maturity and respect. No one has called each other names or started flaming just pure debate and facts. Maybe the last week has had a good effect after all.

now I will not add another word since I class the subject closed I would like to ask though how big the poly count is on spawns model cos it still looks rather high for freelancer?

and on a final note i congradualte spawn on a fantastic model
