Layout of positioning - 20000,0,20000
this is in x,y,z. For any examples i will be using new york system
Now - 0,0,0 is the center of the map on the screen (where New York systems sun is)
x - is across the screen left to right (right being positve) so when x = 80000 it means that its by the right side of the map
y - is up and down (vertical)like height - so if y is positive 40000 (+40000) then you are 40000 up in the air - or truthfully, above the x/z plain. Negative is below - easy way - if your at manhatten planet - up would be above the planet straight up (+y) - to be below the planet straight down is (-y)
Now - z - this is forward and back - so +z is towards the bottom of the map, or the bottom of your screen - -z is towards the back
Let me demonstrate with one of my UBER CRAP diagrams here......

*stands back to look* - shes a bloody beauty aint she?
Some easy ones to know;
Manhatten (-33000,0,-32000) ie its backwards and too the left
Buffalo base (17000, 0, 40000) - its forward towards you, and slightly to the right
Alaska jumpgate (70000,0, 15000) - not exact - but basically far right little bit forward
LA jumpgate (-50000,0,13000) its far left, but forward towards you.
For the UNIVERSE map - its from 0,0 to 15,15 - where 0,0 is the backleft - near the tau systems, and 15,15 is near right, where omicron gamma and theta is!
Hope that helps you - but next time check the newbie questions thread, as i have explained this in detail a few times. That is what the thread is for - any questions the answers might already be there, or you can post a question. there is an 'index' at the front of the thread called NEWBIE QUESTIONS LOOK NO FURTHER2 which helps out.
