Anyone with the Freelancer Beta Code?

Anyone with the Freelancer Beta Code?

I was discussing restoring the old hud (real radar, etc.) displays and some other parts of the game and the modder I was talking with pointed out that the code had been stripped out of the game between the beta release and the gold.

Anyone have the beta?

Not to mention, anyone spot hide or hair of the original design team or the people left when the game was finished?

Any rumors as to what was in the 14 deleted missions, etc.?

Thanks.

With the beta code a Wing Commander style hud and radar would be a lot easier, not to mention the carry freight, escort and similar missions would be back in the game.

Soo, lemme get this straight... you want the beta code for the game... just how much prgramming would be in that? But anyway coool! I dont think your gonna get yer grubby little mitts all over their beta thoe.. Just too much "cool" stuff is locked up in their for people to go messing around with it.... especially seeing as Microsoft was going to withold all info on what was cut out, so they dont get bad press... or so I see it...

ppl do but they will not be able to give it to you

they are locked into an agreement with M$ until they die that:
if they give away the beta code, they must
turn all thier assets over to M$
give thier family to slavery
throw themselves and anyone they gave the beta code to, off a cliff

it isnt really like that, but you get my meaning
M$ only made all that cool stuff so we though FL was better

Nah, the standard EULA on the beta is no where near that severe. I've got the beta for Starlancer and for Crimson Skies floating around the house. I'll bet the beta release was two disks, not one.

The big problem is that someone did a lot of housecleaning in order to free up enough space that the entire game fit on one CD. So, the rest of the 37 missions aren't just disabled, they are gone, various code tags don't have connections, etc.

I'm wondering now just how close the game engine for Starlancer is to that of Freelancer (how much code did they reuse)? That would tell alot about the available huds that could be patched in, etc.

I suspect it was a new engine (cripes, they were five years getting a two year project done) -- especially since they wanted to make a game with the "free flight" model at its core -- the very thing that seems to have been a real stumbling block in terms of making a game that was fun to play.

Anyway, just poking around, trying to find things out.

Hmm... lemme see what I can say...

Beta stuff is under NDA... unless DA releases some of it, our butts would be grilled for giving you stuff like that.

Also the Beta was at most times not the FULL game, but only parts of it, and thus it was NEVER more than one CD.

Ok, so the beta stuff NDA didn't expire on release of the game? Oh well, guess they changed things up again.

Sorry to have bothered people. Usually beta code is worthless when the game actually ships and the EULAs and NDAs all expire.

Too bad that isn't the case here, since I suspect that early betas would include the missing missions and the hud codes, etc. (since you guys post pictures of same that aren't found anywhere else).

The reason for the contracts not expiring might because DA has something planned, but i wouldnt hold my breath about it.

I know it wouldnt have been that severe... duh
