Check out my changing starting ship in multiplayer tutorial, I worked over an hour writting it, and have commented as much as I could to make it understandable.

WELL DONE! Bravo. When I first came to this site I was looking for this, and there was a lot of incorrect, partially correct, and difficult info. I do believe you have managed to hit the nail on the head here in most possible concise manner.
