Arg my system must suck big time!

Title said it all really.............so......for anyone who is good at systems!
What will cause me to crash when i get to the 'midjump' point - where the screen goes white for a second? I have a system - even with custom ids numbers for both jumpgates, and the sun....
Both jumpgates are pointing towards the right place (as in filenames), i have a universe.ini entry for my system, and even got it sorted that i have shortest legal, illegal and other paths! I have the base files sorted - but haven't put in any bases yet cos i wanted to take a peek first. didn't want to fill a page with my file entries unless someone asks to see em (will gladly put em up). I used giskards how to make a system tutorial (correcting any mistakes i saw) and stuff - but it still doesn't work.
So - what files should i have modded, entries where etc? Anyone help out at all?
(if no-one can - then system editing can go take a bloody running jump - its pissing me off!!)
Chips (systems obviously are my weakest point - that, and ..............BEER!!!)

If you e-mail me your modded .ini's I will have a look, I've not been building long, but have nine working systems now.

Can I suggest shsans 2d system editor? just go to the editing utilities forum for the topic. It can do pretty much anything now

I think that the 2D editor only works on compressed ini files, most system builders use the uncompressed format, don’t quote me as I haven’t used it yet, but I don’t think it will work.

Thanks Eagle - but i finally succombed to the ol freelancer explorer though
On the bright side though - it does seem to work well - and lets face it...you point, click, drag, select then:
BOSH
I was fending off lvl 13 corsairs in a starflier whilst being dazzled by my multiple suns and drenched in a weird green glow.
Its good for getting my systems to work - then i can manually edit them!
Only prob is that it removes any skill required, and also the understanding. Will build a couple of systems though for now - then revert back and try again the good old fashioned way!!

p.s - I had the explorer before - but never got it to work - i was 'missing' something! However - its darned handy for sorting out the dll file!

Glad you’ve sorted your problems. I may even look at the explorer myself, as messing around with ini’s, closing and saving, opening FL, loading a ‘Test’ save, cursing as it still isn’t right, closing FL, opening the ini again, repeating this process from step one SEVERAL HUNDRED TIMES, does get a bit frustrating.

Tell me bout it - i got jumpgates working to anywhere that was already made - but whenever it was a new system it was.....'hello desktop'
Stupid thing is i checked what FLexplorer did - and mine was near identical (didn't have all the frilly bits in though - just wanted to check my system out) but got so dam fustrated as everything was correct that i eventually gave in.
Now i have 2 working systems - that although aint that pretty (room for improvement anyways) they are very functional. ONly prob is that in exploring your own system........there aint no suprises!. Should do systems trades hehe
Make em for someone else so you don't know what is coming ..........lol

I like the system trade idea, The systems I am working on are the Outworld systems, a set of nine really nasty systems around the outside of the existing systems, they are inhabited by a diverse cross section of the factions including the Hessians, Outcasts, Corsairs, Bounty Hunters, Xenos. All the AI ships are level 18 or higher, the battle groups can have up to forty AI ships, most of whom hate each other, and the player.

It takes so long to get everything right, it could be a month before all the systems are up and running.

I don’t know how the mod manager works either; you would probably get the systems in modded ini form unless someone would be kind enough to remedy my shortfall.

God come on people editing a sytem is not that hard yeah there are a few annoying bits like trying to get trade lanes to work because of their rotation but other than that it is pretty easy

Well thankyou slick. Your informative post there has helped me out enormously with my motivation to continue. Its nice when someone comes along and is willing to help with friendly advice on how to do things.......not critisise or just say...................man that is easy - why you moaning????????
Wonder where we would all be if every time someone asked a question there was a post like that in reply...............
