creating skins

okay .. I have a bunch of really cool models that I have been working on and I've broken out the meshes and mapped them to generic skins. Victor is playing with one of the models (for creating the actual skin we will distribute it with) but I'd like to get in on the action. Are there any decent tutorials about creating realistic ship skins (weathering, paint chipping, faded markings and the like). If so please post the URL. If there are some good answers to this I might suggest a sticky with those links in the tutorials forum or one of us creating a tutorial on creating good realistic skins.

btw .. I use Photoshop 6 (thinking about buying the upgrade)

Photoshop is good. By using extrude (or some modified form thereof), you can create quite good dents and bullet-holes. Pity FL doesn't seem to support bump mapping. Rust is just different forms of brown/orange noise, apply as you like. My best suggestion is to take a look at some real and weathered aircraft (preferably WWII) to get an idea of the damage that can accumulate.
