Put up the values that control handling. If you like the handling on the ship you currently have, just add about three or four zeroes to each number in the shiparch.ini. For example:
OLD
steering_torque = 50000.000000, 50000.000000, 50000.000000
angular_drag = 70000.000000, 70000.000000, 70000.000000
rotation_inertia = 15000.000000, 15000.000000, 15000.000000
NEW
steering_torque = 50000000.000000, 50000000.000000, 50000000.000000
angular_drag = 70000000.000000, 70000000.000000, 70000000.000000
rotation_inertia = 15000000.000000, 15000000.000000, 15000000.000000
This changes how much force is exherted when handling your ship. When a small ship bumps into you, it exherts an amount of force on you that goes against these values. So, if your ship exherts a lot more force while maneauvering than, say, a starflier does while bumping into you, then it'll affect you a lot less. I think that's how it's explained elsewhere...
Also, the nudge_force stat under these values should not be insanely high as others might suggest. This causes all sorts of weird glitches while just cruising to a target, for example. I put mine down to about 2500. This allows for stations and jump gates to nudge you enough to get you in the dock or ring but isn't so much that a mine or an asteroid or something could knock you a thousand meters away.
