? Any News about SUR Files ?

Hi All!
Has anyone heard news about the sur Files ?
or
Someone knows something about HCL, he was documenting these files
or
Can't really nobody else than HCL crack the format ?? Is it Possible?

Peaple, These Files Are IMPORTANT
it isn't possible to make new ships with a new design without these and it isn't possible to make any new GREAT object (a base)

I don't understand enough of cracking file formats for doing it myself.
So, if you know HCL personally, can you ask him to release / post / whatever what he knows about the format ?
or, if you' re a talented coder and your Brain is running on Hexadecimal Operating System, can you please try to do anything that could help someone else (which brain runs binary with 3d Now! Extension) on cracking that damn format?
Alone we are weak, but together we are STRONG !

PS: if someone finds Grammatical / Ortografical Errors, he may keep them

None mate.

Though a guy over at the milkshape forum looked into and found out that the head files are mostly garbage. The rest of the file is all 3d coordinates apparently. Sounds like a mini cmp file to me with just just the vertices linked up.

I think the .sur files are crackable.

Like Giskard says the majority of the file consists of coordinates which is an advantage to us.

Structure wise the files are organized by object. Each object (as listed in the Object name nodes under Cmpnd -> Root/Part_...) has its own entry in the .sur file beginning with is Freelancer modified CRC of 4 bytes. There are also multiple closely spaced CRC's for objects later on in the file.

This is why any .sur file will work with any .cmp file. The primary object in any .cmp/.sur file is always called 'Root'. This is why the secondary objects in a modded ships .cmp file must share names with the original ships .sur files objects - if they are to take damage.

Its only a matter of time

Here to that Redeye

Im ready to roll out cruisers for all B5 races the moment this is cracked. Like all my models, these ships will be available to others too.
