Okay .. it's there .. finally .. but it's completely invisible .. no icon .. no ship on the pad .. no ship in space .. hey .. nobody can hit me .. hehe .. guess I need to do a search on this problem and see if I can fix it.

In your .mat file make sure the names of the texture groups are the sames names you gave the materials in milkshape.

And, fing a ship with a similar shape (hammerhead would be my guess for yours) and copy it's .sur file into you new ship folder and rename to the same name as your cmp file with the .sur extension.

That should be a good place to start

I found one problem .. the *#%^ utf editor isn't saving the files correctly half the time .. I had to re-edit and save the mat file 3 times before it saved it with the data I gave it.

I haven't checked yet to see if it works .. redoining the 3db file now since I don't get an icon either .. I assume the icon is supposed to be a .tga of the textured ship (I did a printscreen in milkshape and made a tga of it. question on that is .. do I need to make the image a specific size?

HOORAH!

I got the ship to show up .. the lightwave to milkshape tutorial kinda threw me off .. I think I'll write a new tutorial once I have figured all my own problems out.

I have the ship showing up in the game now .. completely visible .. but several of the hardpoints aren't mounting .. I know they are named correctly .. so are there any other issues to be dealt with there? the ones not showing up are the shield, cm, mine, contrails, runninglights, dockinglights and for some reason I cant get any afterburner/thruster action (I have the engine plumes .. but I get no speed boost from the tab key). also the flight is real shakey when in cockpit mode. is there a cockpit hardpoint btw? .. oh the headlight doesn't show up either.

Is the fact that this ship is 4800 triangles big part of the problem? are hardpoints that are defined near a corner a problem? (all my contrail and running lights are on edges .. I know that they are supposed to be assigned according the the nearest poly to the center of mass of the triangle).

well .. back to the model to see where I can clean up some of these edges .. I'm hoping that is the answer to some of the hp problems.

I will put up a screenshot from the game in a bit .. I need to re-arrange weapon hardpoints a bit (no problems with those except for a turret hp that is angled out of the ship for some reason).

cool! What did you use as your tutorial? The lightwave to fl one messed me up. Some points:
-did you have to adjust your weapon turn radii?
-some of those things not showing up may have to be put in the shiparch...I think. Its been awhile. Check some of the other ships' entries.
-afterburn: can you see your burners?
-cockpit: I think the cockpits are shaky for all ships
-I have heard that there is a Cockpit hardpoint, but I haven't messed with it beacuse my ships have no transparent windows
-cornered hardpoints: create a face on the edge or corner; like a shallow slice. cmp export will like that better

PS: congrats for getting you ship to work! More than I can say for mine

And God said,
E=mC²
And there was light.

For a tutorial I used a bunch of stuff from different sources and got a lot of info just from screwing around with things .. I will write something up for these guys to review either tomorrow (my day off) or this weekend. It will be a tutorial to create a ship from start to finish in milkshape and using the utilities found here on lancersreactor.
