ship models and skins

Okay .. I've been searching but can't find anything on the secret to putting a skin on your model. I downloaded an example (cant remember who's) a while back and was looking in it and noticed two tga files .. one for the canopy glass and the other for the ship. The one for the ship (a snub fighter) looks like it was made to match a specific shape .. but I don't see how it matches up.

anyone got any suggestions?

Start at Milkshape's home page looking for texturing tutorials, it's a nice general skill to learn as it isn't just a Freelancer thing.

You can also search the internet for "skin tutorial" and "model texture tutorial" and you should find some helpful sites. Pay particularly close attention to anything dealing with texture coordinate editing (Milkshape) or UV mapping (most other 3d programs). In fact, if you start looking through some Quake, Unreal or Half-Life sites you may find some excellent tutorials on skining models, it won't matter if it's a gun, person or space ship the general practice is the same.

Thanks Victor. I actually did that about 5 minutes after I posted the request. I should have come back and deleted it. Anyway .. I figured it out .. now I have a series of ships modeled (just the raw forms .. no actual hardpoint details yet). I may post a pic or two of them once I get them skinned.
