reckless modding and single player
hello everyone, after taking about a *long* break from freelancer to play aom and war3, i am back to playing/modding freelancer. but here's a funny story about my first day back:
it's my first time running freelancer since i cant even remember...i start to go to multiplayer, but then decide i better warm up in single player and get re-used to the controls. i remember quickly, and get up to when trent and juni are in alaska, watching walker blow himself and the other 2 battleships up so they can get to the jump gate.
shortly after that, i have my first real engagement with the nomads. they are a bit faster than i remember, and even though i have some decent guns, it's taking a LONG time to cut just one of them down. i finally drop my first one, and realise i have run out of shield batteries. but im not worried, because i have a ton of nanobots, and im flying a pretty manuverable ship. i kill about 3 more over the next 20 mins, and run out of bots too. i am getting hit pretty hard, and im looking at the clock trying to decide how 20 mins passed when i only have 4 new kills to my name. soon after my ship is blasted into a million pieces by nomad lasers.
and then it hits me...before i stopped playing freelancer, the last thing i had been working on was making super-nomad ships available to buy in multiplayer. i start laughing as i realise i had been fighting the fruits of my labor - in short, i had just been killed by the very same super-nomads that i had been working on before i stopped playing so long ago!
just thought that was a funny story, and thought i would share the moral with you - before you start playing the single player campaign again, make sure you disable all your mods first! chances are, no matter what ship you mod, you will eventually have to face it later .
