ggrrreeeaaattt Mod Idea!!!!!!

I thought of a great idea for a mod (in my opinion at least). Why not make a mod entirely of piloting battleships. Some SP story and random missions from whole scale wars to clean up missions. I can't mod at all but i'm trying to learn so i have no idea if some of this is possible. Anyways tell me what you think. I think it sounds great : )

You're right....this is a good idea.

I would change it a bit though.
1) Include the mod to have all capital ships available, not just battleships.

Some custom mission styles could be

1) Fleet engagement: fly to space, join the formation, and go blow the hell out of the enemy fleet.
2) Station Attack Missions: fly to space, and at the mission waypoint, attack a heavily defended station before a reactionary fleet arrives
3) Planetary/System Defense: Repel an invasion force for X amount of minutes before they can board the station or land on the planet they are invading



all in all, i cant wait to see how this mod turns out

Capital ships... now that would be great! Ah, i could just imagine flying around a lovely monument class battleship.... *drooling*

I think some systems should be cut out though, perhaps only five total, 11 max, but with massive difficulty step ups

and perhaps start with a nice gunboat and work you way up to cruisers to battleships to finaly capital. I think the war missions will be the best though, imagine 20 battleships, 2 capital ships, 25 cruisers and say a hundred gunboats or so with countless fighters zooming around. Would have to be small player amounts on multiplayer though. That would also be great because it would force players to work together if they wanted to live.

That's perfect! Story is through the scouring of a salvaged sleeper ship nav log they find the cordinates of their lost system, the great houses (including outcasts and corsairs that have now joined togethere) all head down to reclaim it from the coalation.

And i have some ship class ideas

Hispania class (capital ship, we're talking a real beast here)
All capital ships
I never played starlancer but whatever battleships were in it modefied to be equal with freelancer ships if needed.
All battleships
All gunboats
Special prototype ships (we're talking Osiris type stuff)
and perhasp a nifty little fighter 'specialy designed for destroying battle ships (basicaly two BIG blasts, one for shield and one for hull)

Is any of this possible? If so i do realise i probably just turned a weeks worth of work into a few months with a team, but i think it will be the greatest mod of all time if we can ever get it going.

Personally I would like a mod that allows full scale space battles with capital ships and (let's say) 3 squadrons of 5 fighters each (5 Lfighters, 5 Hfighters,5 VHfighters/bombers??).

It would be neat if the jump gate code code could be implemented into a capital ship as a warp drive so the small ships could dock in the capital ship trhen it would warp into the warzone.

Another thing that would be nice is atmospheric flight... like the hability to fly inside the planet... maybe a system with a surface or something, when you dock in the docking rings it would transport into a system that has a surface or something.. or at least an altitude limit with clouds underneath... the skybox shouldn't be a problem.

There is, however, a tut that explains how to get any battleship in the game to be pilotable. And it's fairly easy, too. Just a little time consuming the first few times you do it. The example it uses is the Osiris.

The later ones use the Liberty Dreadnought as an example. Its all in the tutorials forums. Sometimes i wonder if people even bother to look there anymore.
