Colonial Viper - finished

Here's a little something: The Colonial Viper from Battlestar Galactica.
Since the Galactica game doesn't come out on PC (PS2 and XBOX only :-( ), i figured that if i want to fly a Viper, I have to do it myself.

It will be a light fighter, very agile and fast (with a new engine, ~100 max speed), but only 2 Weapon hardpoints (the ones you see on the pics). I need to do a bit of balancing though before it can be released.

I love the series and love the fact it is balanced, however to duplicate the afterburners maybe the secound engine mod ( as done by Porsche with transport). I have the series on DVD and that speed boast saved there butts to many times to list. You know the series is 25 years old and still good?

A skilled pilot doesn't need anymore on that ship. It'll outmanoeuver any other ship out there, and you'll be able to put decent shields on it too
I've been attacked by 10-20 xenos or liberty police ships, and they weren't able to bring down my shields
I'm currently venturing to the more dangerous zones and test the ship against tougher enemies.

a real fighter, not a battleship with 20+ gun and torpedo hardpoints, I never understood all the people out there who cry for more HP and more guns... I loved BSG and am looking forward for the viper.. and as someone said, do not forget the turbos

PS: the ship looks very impressive, I wish I were so good at modelling, my ship looks ... hm :-D

well now that u have ca coloinioal viper it needs a battlestar to laucnh from.... make the pegasus or galactica that would be kickin ass

I dont want to put your off your making your model, it looks great but do not be surprised if you start noticing a lot of mods already have a viper when you release it. Kurgan made one a while back and its currently doing the rounds.

I do believe they made a 2 seater Viper in the series too and thats not been released.

The Colonial Viper is in the Rebalance Mod (1.4, 1.6, 1.9). It's a heavy fighter in rebalance and has a weapons class of 8/6 and a gun/turret loadout of 6/1. If you're making it with a weapon class of 10/9 with two guns that would be better, IMO, especially if it's very manueverable. In rebalance it's a fairly manueverable HF, but it's more in spirit with the show to make it a light fighter.

btw, I decided to make slightly more than a simple ship, it'll ship with special guns too. I'm working on the effects atm, and a bit of power ballancing (you'll only get the guns with the Viper, and i'm thinking of maybe making them only compatible with it...
I hope that I'll be finished with everything by the end of this week, but i can't promise

Yeah, I've always thought the Viper was a light fighter, not the heavy in Rebalance. This Viper looks better to.

With Class 10 capable mounts and super LF maneuverability, you don't really need that many hardpoints. In fact, too many hardpoints makes the game too easy.

Here's an idea: To really simulate the afterburners effect we see in the show, put THREE Thruster hardpoints on this baby right where the regular exhausts are. Not only would this simulate the big afterburner plume seen in the show, it's also simulate the Viper's chronic lack of fuel.

but also with "limited fuel"

Well, took me a bit longer than i thought to finish it.
Yep, you've read right, it's basically finished (all that needs to be done is getting the price right, and infocards+icons).
The ship will come with a custom engine, a custom powergenerator, custom guns (that will only fit on the viper, but you'll be able to mount standard FL weapons if you don't like them) and a custom energy-mine-dropper.
I think the ship will satisfy the people who want a powerfull ship and the ones who want a faithfull one

[Edit: I'm probably also including patterns for the textures, so you can make individual skins, or better textures
