Now, we should indeed know how to edit the place where the names appear, and, if possible add new names (although that wouldn't be absolutely necessary, as you could also put them into the picture, and replace the nameless map with your customized map, and replace the resource.dll entries with a " ".

dont worry about it... i fixed SomeOne's batch to just do bini on every file in the directory... regular though, so it's all good, i have it all

O, what are the ids_name numbers for SIRIUS SECTOR, LIBERTY, KUSARi, BRETONIA and RHEINLAND?

they dont have an IDS_Name because resources.dll isnt a freelancer.ini defined resource... i dont even know how it is accessed

Hmm... that explains why it isn't in freelancer.ini and why FLEd-ids doens't look into it. Too bad.

Well, as the map is static (the names are there when the game starts, and nothing changes about it except the stars that pop-up when you have been in a system), there is no practical reason why one shouldn't simply add the names of your choice into the picture, replace the original nav_prettymap.3db file with a copy containing the altered image, and remove the texts FL puts over it. Good enough for me it is.

But it would of course be cooler to do it the 'real' way

Resource.dll also contains the news messages:

String Table 3501:

Now, in ..\DATA\MISSIONS\news.ini is the following section:

I would think that the 56000 and 56001 refer to the String Table entries in resources.dll.

So the String Table entries in resources.dll can be pointed to as if they were ids_name numbers. So, if there is an ini file arranging the texts on the map, it might point to 1285 for "SIRIUS SECTOR". unfortunately this isn't the case: a search for 1285 does render some coindidental results, where 1285 is inside a larger string, but nothing regarding the map). So the only point of my post is to let you know I checked this dead end.

you had a good point, and i checked too, also too hit a dead end...

this is something someone will probably stumble on eventually, and shouldnt be really worried about in my opinion
