Hello.

I would not advise using a lob value of 99999, it means the ships already visable which can cause lag on low end systems.

Instead replacing the lob entry with this one for fighters and small freighters.

LODranges = 0, 1000

Just increase the 1000 to something higher for larger ships. Start by making a ship 99999 then look to see at what point the engine glow vanishes on larger ships. This means giving the AI the ship and following it with it targeted. If you dont know how to do that, just give larger ships a figure that would appear to be a good distance for them to vanish at.

The only values i use are 1000 and 1300 for bigger ships but i think 2000 might be better for large ships.

Giskard,

Thanx for the help, rather than start that high,I changed the entry to: 0, 1001, 1002,1003 to take up the same number of values as previously which were 0,75,125,1000. Dunno if it is absolutely necessary to provide the same number of values but I thought caution was wise.......

Problem fixed.

Thanx again,

Harrier

Most custom ships only need 2 numbers btw.

Custom models tend to lack some of the finer points of the dev teams models so a lot of that distance stuff doesnt work too well. However, if its working for you, dont change it.

Perhaps somebody could tell me of the DDS textures are controled by that the lob line. If so it would explain why they didnt work on TGA's. DDs makes multiple copies of a texture at different sizes you see.

A well thought out post. However, please do not confuse "Knowlege" with "Intelligence". I like to think of myself as a reasonably intelligent individual with a eclectic mental database to work with. I can also read! As you may gather from this post, Yes I admit it, I am a "Noob". I know of ways to rebuild my computer in ways the designers never dreamed of, I am somewhat conversant in Vpinball construction however I have not the opportunity to learn the 3d modelling skills like you have, neither have I the programming/modifiying skills that you poses. I am learning. If a "Noob" does ask a question without thinking, I ask of you to remember that you too once were a "Noob". I hope to avoid many of the pitfalls that a "Noob" can fall in to.

One thing that I've done is finally getting a internet connection on my system at home. In the past the only internet access I've had is a grand total of maybe 15 minutes during lunch. That is if my boss isn't using the comp to play Freecell. I now have the time to "Search and ye shalt maybe find"

On the lighter side...
Giskard, heard anything from R. Daneal? (Joke!!)

We're sorry but the number that you have dialed is imaginary.... Please turn your phone 90 degrees and try again.

Hello Giskard,

I Have finished 8 ships now and am in the process of completing two more. All my models to date have been fighters and one of the two newships is a new kusari light or medium fighter which is becoming more complex as I add more detail to it, the other is my first attempt at something larger - a freighter.

I would like to add pilots to several of the ships but am a bit confused as to the form, I know that if I add transparent windows to the cockpits then I can add a simple sphere and boxes in milkshape and they will be part of the ship provided I texture them. I have seen on TLR that I can add Hp/Fixed/HpPilot hardpoint, but I cant find any reference to it in any of the ini's. Can you enlighten me? or do I just add a ship_pilot.3db file to my directory or a reference of some sort? I have searched the forums and am unable to find the answer.

Thanx for all the help to date.

Regards,

Harrier.

My favourite, work done for free is cause for complaint. I think most makers would say, give me £30 and i'll listen to your complaints for few minutes before ignoring you like most official devteams do in other forums. Honestly, your not going to get people responding in a nice way to posts like that, even if they agree, in this forum they will take the mod makers side. Because guess what, they are all mod makers. Funny i know but it is the odd thing about this forum.

Conclusion.

I've found that to be very true. It is amazing what people will do if you offer to pay them.

Somebody seems to have deleted my replies. Also my 2 emails to TLR about my HU V8.1 release seems to have been ignored. Hu has vanished from TLRs downloads, though that me be a result of my saying they can link to respawn.

Not sure what to think....

Perhaps i should stop posting.
I'll call back in a few days and see if this post vanishes too.

Anybody who needs me in the mean time can reach me on the websites linked below's forums.
Respawn

Anybody that wants to explain this to me can send an email to giskard2 at my respawn addy rather than my old giskard email address. Several thousand users who have my email address in their address books managed to get infected by a virus or two so that address got used by the sobig virus along with a long list of other fake addresses and now is no longer accepted by certain mail servers. For the record, the sobig virus fakes the senders address so the sender remains infected and is not told when his system sent a virus to somebody else. If you didnt know worms do that, try reading a virus library sometime, its a wealth of information and most Virus checker sites maintain such a library these days.

Giskard,

Seems to be a common problem, I have had a similar problem, and I know my system is clean, it is checked on a regular basis and all my emails are virus checked before I open them. It is a mystery to me as well.

giskard.
I've just read this thread. I'm newish to modding, 5 months, and have spent most of that time in the tutorials threads. I have asked (not often), questions I was more than able to find out for myself, just me being lazy. I'm glad to say on those occasions I was ignored. I agree with your sentiments here.
