i was already planning on doing that.

Post Mon Jun 09, 2003 2:50 pm

you need to change the name though, no air, no slip stream

Post Mon Jun 09, 2003 5:13 pm

And if you could turn off collision during travel that would be even better. Otherwise going "slipstream" midst an asteroid field would be a quick ticket to respawn.

Post Mon Jun 09, 2003 7:46 pm

actually, in Halo, slipspace is the equivilent of hyperspace in Star Wars.

Post Tue Jun 10, 2003 12:27 am

Well slipstream space then......Satisfied!!!!!(or slipspace!)

Yeah collision would have to be turned of or you would certainly explode.
Could have special slipspace thrusters/engines.

Well Wassssssup, you can do it then. I just think up ideas.

it is a good idea. i have no clue how to turn off collisions. id just tell em to make an in system jump AVOIDING the asteroid areas.

whats realistic is what happens when you make quick sloppy navpoint to escape from combat, hit go to, and find how damn far away you are from where you should ahve been. or if you dont use a navpoint at all :-P

also, you probably can pass through a suns carona (not the sun itself of course) without taking damage, adding even more realism. but youd have make sure that your cruise speed was that damn fast (maybe 300,000). if you could edit acceleration, that would be even better :-P

you could make a slipspace transport or ship that doesn't have a collision file

Post Tue Jun 10, 2003 2:29 am

A ship without a collision file would be invulnerable since shots wouldn't connect. Slipspace would be better if you could include the tradelance effects when doing that. Now if there was only a way to create an engine that would warp you to the nearest jump hole once the coordinates were set. If that works, you'd have a portable jump drive.

Post Tue Jun 10, 2003 3:38 am

So basically we could totally destroy part of the collision files...(probably not goin to happen.), A portable jump hole which is a damn good idea, We could destroy the asteroid zones(once again, probably not goin to happen),But the best possible thing would, I think, implement the navmap to its fullest extent. If there is a way to kinda teleport to a certain sector or even part of a sector, it would be phenominall.A way of moving incredibly fast but at the same time being as if your ship was a gas cloud that could go right through things.
Or something that does not move you in a straight line, but moving from one point on the navmap by just having it place your ship at a certain point.(thus changing your current point from one to another.
Yes, it probably cant be done and it is kinda complex but it would be the most realistic.

This is a little off base with everyone's ideas here (I would personally kill for a portable slipstream drive for a ship, go from point A to point B in a split second), but another idea if you want to get from one place to another quickly could be poluting systems with jump holes. It would kind of be like the show Andromeda, where they have slip points throughout the galaxy. I downloaded the hyperspace mod, which would be better if it had jump holes in it, and something like it would be great. An orange cloud or something, followed by jump hole after jump hole (all named so you know where your going) for several or all systems. The cloud, like the hyperspace mod, could be located in a new system, kind of like the hyperspace mod did.

Post Tue Jun 10, 2003 11:21 pm

Thats a good idea. The only thing is positioning the holes in positions that are really convenient for movin around. Cuz it would be bad to have tons of jump holes lyin around.

A jumphole/jumpgate next to every major planet and station? Sounds workable but it'll be time consuming. Makes trade lanes kind of pointless though.

Post Wed Jun 11, 2003 10:51 am

You could create a system as a central "hub". One jump hole in each system going to it, then you could get to any system from any system quickly and easily.

^Exactly.
