do edited weps need a new IDS_name?

Ive been trying to edit some weapons, Ive managed to do one, with the beam weapon tutorial as a guide, and it works perfectly. It uses the Heavy Starbeams IDS.
But now when I come to edit another weapon it wont work, Ive used the weapons original IDS name, and the game crashed to desktop. Ive used another weapons IDS name and it still crashes.
What am I suposed to do?

that sounds like something has been entered wrong in the ini file, check all commas etc, are in the right place in the file, i highly doubt that the ids_name would make the game crash

And the problem is...freelancer crashes anyway, mod or no mod :/
time to re-install I think
