Dunno for your number one question but for your second one it's easy. Just change the colour of the background to something not used in the picture, like neon pink or something like that, then, I don't remember where, there is an option for setting the transparancy of a colour. Just set the neon pink colour (Or whatever else you may have used as the background colour) to be completly transparent and voila.
