Some texture questions

Hi!

First off, i hope you understand my english*g*.
I know how to retexture a ship, i have already done this with my eagle.But now im on a point where i have a problem and a question.The question first:

How do i change the color of the front window?I didn't find this texture in the cv_ships.mat.

And now to my problem.Because i have no webspace i must try to describe you my prob as best as i can.Lets start...

I tried to style my eagle to a black-green-look.I have changed all textures in the cv_ships.mat how i wanted them to be.But there seems to be a prob with one.I made all changes to the Equip_gen.tga correctly, but FL just won't use this texture in the way it should.If i just fly around in space, FL uses the standard Equip_gen.tga.Only if i land on a planet FL uses my changed texture.And even there not every time.In space is always the standard Equip_gen on my ship, just sometimes, when i land on a planet, my modified texture is used by FL.But this happens only on this texture, all others work fine.
But how can FL still use the standard Equip_gen.tga, if i have changed and overwritten it?From where does FL take this texture then?

So, i hope that this was understandable for you, i know there are maaaaany errors inside*g*.Thanks for any replies!

P.S. I have used the search function of the forum, but i didn't find anything.

Thanks, but this didn't really helped, because my prob is with a special texture.There must be anybody out there with the same prob, i can't be the only one, cause there many retextured Eagles out there!

BTW i figured out how to change the window color.

I can't help you with the cockpit glass... but I remember there was a thread about transparent texture in the Tutorial Forum. Maybe it will help you...
And I'm not sure about your other problem but it might have something to do with the LODs. Maybe somebody with more knowledge than me about that kind of stuff can help you but if nobody answers to this post, I guess it's because nobody knows the solution to your problem (or maybe because nobody cares).

darkpetzi the tutorial you speek of only works in an unpatched photoshop 7. any other version you have to make an alpha chanel manually (the reason for this is the changed the way they did things in un-patched 7 and stored the transparancy layer where the alpha layer normally goes any other version is back to the old way of working including the newer updates) . black being see through, white solid. how this applies to the in game transparancy i dont know. but i thought i should mention it incase some one goes looking for the tutorial.

Vulture .Equip_gen.tga are you using it as a tga or dds. if tga you have to change the bit MIPS to MIP0(note zero at end). if dds what did you use to convert/edit it?


cockpit glass has something to do with the material cv_glass, i.e the type and Dc and Oc values (havent figured this out yet but were working on it)

First off thanks people!

As is said in my last post, i now have a green window!You have to change the Dc-value of cv_glass.The numbers u see if u use the UTF-Editor's EDIT-function are color-values, the following ones are from the Eagle:

0.654902 - red
0.529412 - yellow
0.317647 - blue
0.000000 - green

1 seems to be the upper limit and means 100% of this color is used.Now you can change the window color very easily!

And now to my second prob:

I have edited this Equip_gen.tga like all my other textures too, this one is the only one which won't work correctly.I use Photoshop 7.0 with are matching DDS-Plugin.First i used the UTF Editor, exported all Textures of the Eagle as DDS-FILES, changed them via Photoshop, imported them in the cv_ships.mat and it worked!Except for 1...
I thought that the LOD-system could be the reason for this too, but theres something confusing me:I have a savegame on Manhatten.If i just start the game after booting my PC, all textures including the Equip_gen.tga are used properly, i see them correctly on my ship.BUT if i just start from the planet and land on it again, the standard Equip_gen.tga is used!But why??From where does FL take the standard Equip_gen.tga?I have changed it, theres no way FL can still use this texture, cause the original Equip_gen.tga does not exist any longer!But FL still does using it...curious...
