any "original" addon ships that exist?

im curious.. doesn't anyone want to creat a ship from their original idea??

cuz all I see is alarming amount of starwars/babylon 5/wc ships for freelancer.. its sad thing that a bunch o fanboys has taken over every single moddable space sim possible. since i ever got really board of playing the same old spaceships from different sci-fi series.. it would be a hell of a lot interesting if people started created their own ships from their original idea.

well its just human nature.. i really can't control it. (

There are a few I have seen in the works but none really that are finished...

I love the Star Wars models, but yah, some original ships would be nice. We have a ton of those from Starlancer.

Well, Schlong,

It sounds like you have some fresh new ideas, and the drive to make them happen.

SO DO THEM YOURSELF!

Why is it that everyone who comes on here and complains has 1 post and no mods to their name?

Is it worse to be a fanboy, or a whining leech?

The "shut up and do it yourself" attitude seems to be tightening its grasp on this forum. Is this a good thing? I'm not one to say. Is it appropriate? Hell yes.

While modeling a ship (or anything else) can be damn hard, the learning curve for getting started is not that steep. It just takes a few hours to learn -- say two hours a day for a month. Skinning is more of a chore, I hear, but that's why you often see mod TEAMS.

However, there's not even that excuse for people who want, say, the Junker CSV playable. You only have to add 20 lines, max, to three files. "I want it NOW NOW NOW!" Well, that's what the tutorial forum's for. Simple tweaking of the game is as easy as 1-2-3.

Maybe it IS time for a mod request forum. This is a "I added the Titan to Manhattan, but it doesn't show up" forum, not a "I want my Titan in New York. It must pilot like a Patriot, have the Champion shield equipped, cost $1, and use only class 10 guns that never drain. NOW!" forum. If those posts keep getting posted here, you can tell everyone (aside from Kei...BakedPotato) will be telling them to "Do the !@#$ thing yourself!", frightening them away. I like that these forums aren't run like the moderators are Nazis, but perhaps they are a little too slack.

I apologize for my overharsh tone. I simply question the need to come on and criticize others for the mods they are doing, when the critcizer has contributed nothing.

Well we fans love out ships but the answer is yes, some of us are working on original designs as well as scifi tv series designs. I currently have 1 original fighter in production. Right now though, im not at all happy with the body of the ship and will be changing it.

I am also currently modelling a few ships, all completely original.

i think you guys misunderstood.. he means ORIGINAL SHIPS, based on the sirius system, not based off of some movie or something

Post Mon May 19, 2003 5:19 am

Actually, I think he means ships that are completely original. As in come entirely from our minds and nowhere else. And that's what I am doing for my ships... Although some are influenced or inspired by the designs of the ships currently in Freelancer.

This game is fairly new out for the amount of heavy duty modding going into it. I believe we are seeing the fan-mods earlier than original work mostly because a) much of the work has already been done, either for mods to other games, or b) just getting the image and structure balance.

I also have a non-derivative ship in production, but as it is my first ever mod, I am also climbing that learning curve. Currently the ship lacks a skin, but like C3PO it will get there eventually.

It is interesting to hear what people ask for when wishing for mods. Some of the ideas are wonderful, some simply munchkinesque.

Porche has done a wonderful job bringing some of the Star Wars ships into the Freelancer world, but balance is needed for them the "fit in" in my opinion. They tend to be a bit on the overdone side (575 cargo but flies like a light fighter).

Also, this forum is about more than just ships. They are an integral part of the game, but so are the systems and other components. My hat off to those who are building new worlds! I'm sure we will soon be seeing new clothes and other accessories for the characters to be wearing as well. There are already replacement music for the bars and other sound-effect tweaks. I know that several of us have been trying to dissect the mission scripts and other things to add either an entire new SP or to add more flavor to the random missions, but this kind of work takes a long time when we are able to devote so few cycles to it each day and lacking the original development tools.

So finally, for all those who are impatient with the mods to date, I counsel patients. I know it is hard to wait, but each day something new shows up on the homepage. In the mean time, try your hand at some simple mods yourself! I know it has been suggested before and not what one wants to hear. Some have no interest in the creating, just the enjoyment of playing. The mods are a way for them to extend that enjoyment a bit. Others of us do indeed enjoy the creating, but please give us time.

I know what you mean. I was part of the Operation Flashpoint modding community for about a year and a half, and half that time most of us spent waiting for the dev tools to be released so we could make our own models (although some people tried to make their own, some more successful than others). And even then it had an extremely steep learning curve, with lots of language barriers, particularly with named selections (the developers were Czech)
