a quick question...

I just downloaded the 'engine trails' mod from the downloads section, but it I have no idea how to activate it. Any help is appreciated.

yes, but which file; the read-me doesn't say anything (sorry for my newbie-like lack of knowledge)

sorry open the engine_equip.ini file and edit this line for each engine that you want trails from the engines
from this
trail_effect_player = gf_li_smallengine01_playtrail
to this
trail_effect_player = gf_li_smallengine01_trail
