Hardpoint help (an other question whitch hasn''t any link

I need to know how to add hardpoints for a ship in milkshape. It's for my civilian freighter : the startrader.
Here you can take a look at what it look like. If you can also give me you suggestions. Of course, I'm not a professional and I am a bit bad in texturing ! But it's better than nothing !
I also tried to put it in Freelancer with HLC's CMP exporter but nothing show exept the shield and when i want to buy it, the game crash. I modded this files : shiparch.ini, goods.ini, misk_equip.ini and market_ship.ini. I think it don't come from the inis cause I've already added a ship (StarBlazer) without crashing.
In milkshape, I proceed like that : i made my mesh and texture whit other programs and then import it in milkshape, use the export function and choice CMP, save it.
Hop there will be some help!

The game crashes becauseyour .mat file is not ok.The problem is that .tga files you made is now ok therefore game will crash.

Take a look at the Borg Sphere tutorial KillerMatrix put out. It explains it pretty well.

I made it and understand what I wanted to. But when I try to go to the ship dealer whit my ship in, the game crash ! What am I doing wrong ? I don't think this is because of the texture cause the last time y tried, i succeed to go to the ship dealer but never to buy my ship (see on my first post). If KillerMatrix can take a look here, it will help me a bit.
Anyway, thanx Kurgan. I have never heard about this tutorial before.

When you import texture in to MIP0 do you see an r (not R) in ASCII column when using UTF editor to create .mat file.If you do than that is most likely to be problem.I do not know what that r means but when ever it is there game will crash at ship dealer. Also the texture has to be .tga

Not sure Arch, but it does sound like either your texture or the ini's. I always try mine out by replacing a standard ships model first, then adding it in as a new ship.

Leon >> There isn't any "r" in my MIPO node in ASCII mode. I was wondering, is this a "o" or a zero ? Also, my texture is saved in tga not compressed and have the correct proportions ( 512px/512px ). Don't know is there has to be a special panel of colors or some thing like that.

Allso check this, in shiparch

DA_archetype = location of .cmp (ex.=DA_archetype = ships\darknes\night_rider\night_rider.cmp)

material_library = location of your .mat file (material_library = ships\darknes\night_rider\night_rider.mat)

For the DA_archetype and material_library, it was done.

It works ! Great.
But the textures don't shows how I want them to do.
Is there specials things I must know about texturing?

Check in your shiparch.ini that you have the LOD (level of detail) ranges set correctly. The stock freelancer ships seem to have about three levels of detail depending on your distance from them. Most of the custom ships have only a single level of detail and so the range in shiparch.ini should be set to 0, 999999.

Hi captain.
When i say "don't shows how i want them to do" it mean textures shows but not at good place .
Also, i forgot the LOD problem. That was why my ship desapeared when it get away from me. Thanx.

Do you mean textures look kind of dragged out.
