Claimable stations?

Before I embark on educating myself in the art of modding, I was wondering if someone could tell me if a particular feature I would hope to have is even possible.

Could the game be made to support various locations (planets and the larger stations, not the fixed location battleships and smaller border stations) being claimable by other factions?

Basically, what I would like to do is create a multiplayer mod that allows the players to join a faction and participate in a galactic war, with missions that allow that faction to slowly spread across the known galaxy, perhaps recreating the WW2 alignments, with Kusari and Rheinland allied against Liberty and Bretonia.

It would be so cool to participate in the Battle of Cambridge as a fleet of Bretonian battleships and various cruisers and gunboats fight a fleet of Rheinland ships that are on the move after having taken complete control of Omega-5. Meanwhile, the Liberty Fleet has managed to hold the Kusaris at Colorado while moving a small strike force up through Tau-29 to destroy the Battleship Nagumo, thusly allowing an almost unhindered move into the heart of Kusari space.

I'm not looking to add new ships or anything like that. I am just looking to "rescript" the game, I guess. But it would all be moot if the Rheinlanders couldn't push the locals out of Freeport 1 and begin using it as a forward command post...

So there it is, and there is my question. Hopefully someone would know the answer...

well i am sure its possible, but if you mean "has it been done yet" i believe the answer is no. you would have to change some of the game's "hard code", and the stuff you would need to mod most likely wouldnt be in a regular ini file. if your new to modding tho, maybe you should learn how to work with the ini files, changing your ship's stats and so on, before you start on something that big...and some programming experiance might be good too .

i dont think there are many people who can be more helpful than that...what you want to do is a higher level of modding (if you will), than *most* ppl are able to work with. gl tho if you try it
