Milkshape and Models etc etc etc

Please help, I have Milkshape now installed and I have the example of the dralthi fighter someone did as an example. Looking at It I can see the hardpoints etc, and I know they are just triangular meshes named as hardpoints... but how do you actually add more.
I have meshes of afew fighters, ranging from A-Wing (star wars) to the Defiant (star trek) and afew misc... I have got them working but cant add hardpoints for engine / weapons etc.
Also (sorry about this) never done this before, so just diving in at the deep end. How do you create a skin for your mesh? What do you call it etc etc and how does it go into freelancer. Is the skin created when you export it as a cmp file?
Also the Dralthi I have is invisible , not on station pad, not in game either. Is the because of the LOD ranges, do I have to add a new ship in shiparch.ini. I know there was a borg sphere tutorial explaining alot of this, but that seems to have disappeared. Any ship I do I will place on this web site, so thanks for the help!!!!

There are tutorials that cover ships pretty well.

The one i found handy for the later stages is the lightwave to freelancer tutorial. The later parts of the tutorial are valid for all 3D modelers. There is another somewhere, I forget where that covers textures, againt a search for ships should uncover them.

Theres a lot of info you need before you continue. Spend an hour searching and reading and all will become clear. Otherwise your going to waste days fixing mistakes.

Trust me on this, read & search first, make mistakes later
