warp speed discovered

hi all,
just to let you know of a few interesting things ive found while making me mod.

giving your ship more than one engine results in an interesting feature;
the "z" key which normally stops your engines propells you to 999 instead while still letting you fire your guns and rotate without changing direction.very handy for getting to the fight quickly but lethal in a minefield or somesuch.
(discovered by my friend ghost while testing how the ship handled during a splatterfest ;-)

having finally bought a titan ive realised i may be talking complete bollocks till the end of this alert - testing uderway to determine asshole quotient.

this seems to have been known by the original coders as (if you check the titan) it has 3 engine points (one at the end of the 2 horizontal wings) but only uses one in the middle which was added later (ie point 3) this has also led to them having to use a hardpoint to position the engine glow as it normally defaults to the locations of all engines .this was handy for me as i could remove one engine and still keep both glows in the right place.

this needs more testing but as long as you have enough nozzles to fill the engine hard points it seems to work - for those of you who want the space shuttle look ;-)

i also found out how to change the icon at the ship dealers to one of your own design (should work for any in game icon). i dont know if everyone already knows how to do this (they probably do )so if you want the info ill post it. i only mention it cos rubbereagles thread says its not possible right now.

i also made the icon look better ;-)

i was worried that the high poly count would slow down multiplayer but a few friends and i tried it yesterday and it seemed fine.

anyone know how HCL is getting on with the .sur files? i had a look at q-hull's manual and had to go lie in a darkened room for a couple of hours ;-(

well u said it has 3 spots of engines right one of each wing right? well since u sid thsat i think have engiens there would be cool and was wondering if u could mod it for me

just bought a titan realised it had 2 engine plumes and decided i may be talking out my ass on this point ;-(

i will look into it however and see what i can do
ill keep you posted if i discover anything .did you want extra engines for more speed or just the plumes for the looks - extra engines can make docking into a scene from a marx brothers movie by the way.

ok,
i didnt manage to change the appearance of the titan - all plumes in the same place but i did manage to add another 2 engines .

this gives a top speed of 239 and 359 with thrusters,
it also makes hitting the "z" key speed you up to 999 (the original point of this post ;-(

the plumes thing on my ship may have bin a happy accident but maybe if we deleted the engine glow hardpoints on the titan it might work - not really sure.

the code i used to add the engines is pasted below (dont know if this forum corrupts the scripts or not though - if it does just email me and ill send you the xml)

this script should be added to your xml script in flmm and will change the engine package on all NEW titans - not the one your flying!!!

*edit* yup it corrupts it - those square brackets should be closed. youve got mail dude. this might also help with your script in another thread . and yes it made docking a bit funny a couple of times - i even docked backwards once . just remove one of the engine lines if it gets to be annoying and you should go back to normal with a proportional drop in the speeds (appart from in "z" .*end of edit*

hey u answer my question and ithough this is a good way to get ur attention i need u to check this out it doesnt work all the way i tried to replace 3 ships at manhten only 2 chnage

sorry dude dont use messengers,

ok first things first,

your script puts double entries into the ini for the 3 ships your trying to make buyable -the fact it did anything apart from make your game fall over is more by luck than judgement.
you do NOT just paste in lines of code you'd like to see.
to make this work you need to firstly set all the ships currently buyable on manhatten to not buyable, ie set gf2_package, lf_package and lfr_package to
-1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1
once youve done that you can make the ships you want buyable DO NOT replace gf2 with bwf or anything like that just change the bwf line to read -1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 1 at the end.
Look at the code i put in the thread about your script problems and look for the REASON the code is written the way it is.it may help to have the original ini file open in wordpad (use bini from the downloads section of this site first drag the file on top of bini and release and it makes a text copy you can view in wordpad)
the reason the code only does one line at a time is because there are lines in between the ones your changing you dont need to change.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO MAKE BACK UP COPIES OF YOUR INI FILES BEFORE YOU START DOING THIS - JUST IN CASE!!

before you try this i think you need to go read all the tutorials again or look at the code other people have used in their mods and use it as a template

with a little dedication this stuff aint too hard to get a grip of - i had never replaced a ship before i tried to fix your code in the other thread (my mod just adds one ) but i looked at rapids code from the tie mod and worked out what he was doing then did the same

stick in there and you'll get a grip of it in no time

and i am reading you other thread dude and will answer there when i get time.

see i did the same thing u did i looked at the tiefighter mod and mystuff is just like his but mine doesnt work udunno all the codes and **** checks out im anoob to making scripts liek this not to hard editing and stuff that stuff i can do in my sleep its just this scripting **** cant do ermm its hard

well can can do that but i want this mod to b for downloadable like this is just the beginning of a large mod i want to do and it should be able to chnage it thats why cause in the tuorial i did from the flmm thingy it says that stuff like this should work
