Polygon limits

What is the polygon limit on ship and weapon models in Freelancer? I did a forum search but came up pretty dry.

Perhaps I should clarify (I was being kind of short there). I have been reading these forums for a few days now (Thank Gord too, I've learned so much here) and have seen polygon limits mentioned a few times. Some people saying that something has way too many polygons for the game or that someone should cut the polygon count in half. How many is too many? How many is average? What should I be shooting for here? I want to build some new weapon models before I move on to ships. Missile pods, particle accelerators, turrets etc... but won't know where to stop.

hi,
i read on the forums somewhere that milkshape cant import more than 8,ooo polys but the ship i just built in it had 11,269 by the itme i was finished so im a bit confused myself.
hopefully somebody somewhere knows for sure and will let us know ;-).

Another question: I was messing about with milkshape earlier today trying to make a missile pack to replace that goofy bullhorn shaped missile launcher. I started making a pack of 9 tubes, but then I started wondering: These are all vertical, does that matter? Wait... What size am I making these? What size do they need to be? Will this missile pack be bigger than the ship? Will it be infinitesimally small? What is the scaling here? What about this central plane? Does that enter into the equation at all? How do I tell it where it attaches to teh ship?
I found a couple of links for milkshape tutorials, and will read them when I get home. Darnit... And my wife says that it's nothing like CAD... (My friend was telling me: "Dude, it's easy! It's just like CAD!"
