Adding extra thrusters?

Has anybody ever tried to add an extra thruster to a modified ship? I've successfully gotten a second thruster hardpoint to show up, but I can't actually add a thruster to it. More importantly, can anybody do this while provindg some sort of advantage for having an extra thruster?

Yeah, it's been done, and it's really easy to do. If you've actually added a second hardpoint to the ship, you have to reference it in shiparch.ini. Find the line

hp_type = hp_thruster, HpThruster01

and make it

hp_type = hp_thruster, HpThruster01, HpThruster02

or whatever you named your new hardpoint. You can do this for already existing hardpoints as well, for instance

hp_type = hp_thruster, HpThruster01, HpMine01, HpCM01

will give you the option of putting thrusters on the mine and countermeasure hardpoints. This actually looks really neat on the Starflier, as they're all next to each other.

There's an advantage and a disadvantage to more thrusters. The advantage is you get an increased thrust. The thrusters work by adding their own engine force to that of the engine, and since speed in the game is Force/Drag, you go faster. For an unmodified ship/engine, you'll go 440m/s. The disadvantage is that the thruster energy will drain 3x as quickly, and you can't just operate one thruster at a time.
