reputation adjusting question

in another message it mentions to open the empathy.ini file and change the minuses... I opened the empathy.ini file and there are lots of different entries which don't mean a lot to me. How do you know which group is which? The first one listed is "group = li_n_grp" how does one know who they are? The only minus signs I see are under event...should these minus signs just be removed? Or do the values after the minus signs need to be changed?

under empathy rate= what should these be to be considered friendly? It appears that each group has a different empathy rate for each other group.... I find this kinda confusing. If anyone can shed a little light on the subject it would be appreciated.

I'm guessing that by cganging the empathy rates to a standard in each case would probably make everyone friendly with each other as well...(how boring a game would that be then???)

the group= is the group that uses this empthy rating, meaning, it will effect you relationship with this group. the events are things you do to that faction, ie destory one of there ships, complete a mission, fail a mission etc. and how it will effect your relation (+ or -) with that faction, the empthay rate is how your relationship will change bassed on things you do to OTHER factions, for example if you finsh a mission for the liberty rouges, your relationship with the liberty navy will go down based on the -0.25. In other words what you do to other factions can/will effect your relationship with this faction, thats the majority of what the empthay covers. Also to clairfy the empathy rate is based on actions you do that effect the factions, there starting relationships with each other is set in the intialworld.ini Hope that helps clear things up.

Thanks for the info. Is there a way to modify yout present reputation status with the individual groups by manipulating this ini information? Or is it stored somewhere else? How about in the saved game files? If so, what do you use to edit a saved game file?

the players starting rep with factions *at least for mp* is located in the file called mpnewcharacter.fl in the exe directory of freelancer. This at least changes the starting reps for multiplayer. Not sure about sp on that

"well, if you MUST know, I have heard a rumor..."

"Alright, you've got my attention..."

"Ok, here's what's going on..."

initialworld.ini describes relations between factions (ie Liberty Police and Liberty Navy). These are static.

mpnewcharacter.fl sets up initial relations between each faction and the player (ie "Trent" and Xenos). These are dynamic.

empathy.ini governs how a change in relation with one faction affects relations with others.

Finally, your present relational status is stored in character data (savegames) and can not be modified as of yet.
