General MOD Question
I've been lurking and reading many of the incredibly helpful posts on this forum and I was just struck with the question:
"Just what exactly is constant or hard-coded that cannot be changed in the game" without some serious programming ability?
For example, obviously we can add ships, make bases destructable, and so forth, but can we expand on what's already there?
1. Can "rooms" be added to planets (instead of just the traditional bar, equipment dealer, commodities borker, used-ship dealer, etc.), can we add say a library, political office, military headquarters, police precinct, hospital, blackmarket, racing syndicate, etc.?
2. Can we enlarge the galactic map? Maybe add systems and planets further south of the Sirius Sector or push out in other directions?
3. Can we add other astronomical phenomena, (such as a working black hole with an orbital research station)?
4. Can the game be MODed to allow PC's to build their own bases (like assembling modular units) or mining the interior of a large asteroid? Thus, creating their own faction or corporation for those entrepreneur types.
Just wondering how much freedom we have in MODing (even though some of the project ideas listed above would most likely take considerable time).
