black holes and you <img src=smilies/icon_smile_question.

i am going to make a new system for FL it os going to include (if possible)
a black hole w/ a gravity well. i have allready seen the model for the blackhole
and i know how to make an event horizon for the blackhole(cause destruction).

i just want to know:

how to make a gravity well in freelancer
has anyone found a way to make a gravity well in this game?

Nothing in the game play as it is suggests there's anything even closely related to gravity. To me, this suggests it was never ever planned for the game. I could be wrong about this, though.

There's only one reason to have any kind of system jump to a black hole, and that's to mine something that may be orbiting it. If that's the case, there's probably also something falling into it, which would generate large amounts of radiation. Therefore, before you even got close enough to feel the slippery slope of the gravity well, you'd be fried. If the debris field is far enough away, though, that there is no accretion disk, you'd have to get within a solar radius before you were torn to atoms by the field. All you really need to make THAT as realistic as possible within the FL universe is something to blow the ships up right some good (without the computer warning you about atmospheres or coronae) when you're within, say, 5K of it. I know that's not the effect you're looking for, but I'd gather it's as close as you'll get.

Then again, it IS kind of lame to have a black hole in the game at some point without some sort of orbital effect. There may be some old code somewhere in the files, or an unused gravity zone defined or something. Again, I really don't know.

the system i am going to build will have much more in it than the blackhole i have been editing 6 new weapons to be available at the bases in this system eventualy i whant to make a new ship for sale at the main planet

the reason i was thinling about gravity wells is that all planets and stars have an escape velocity postyed i have also heard that the harmless star would trap you on the surface just wondering it would be posible to up this effect a few million times to make a black hole

it is pretty bad that FL does not even pretend to have any gravity sytem

"and i know how to make an event horizon for the blackhole"

Care to share? I've tried the vortex, combinations of planetary rings, and bh.ini itself, but nothing produces the desired effect.

The event horizon is just the little black ball that you can see in other posts. What you're trying to make is the accretion disk, the swirling pancake like disk of infalling gas and dust. I heard tell that it's in the files somewhere.

Like I said, it's stupid of them to even put a blackhole model in game without SOME way of simulating gravity for it. It may be there, but to the best of my knowledge, no one's found it.

If you take notice, you'll also see that the planets list stats like diameter. The diameters are a whopping 15000km in some cases, yet the systems are only something like 200K across. As far as I'm concerned, K = km based on distances to other ships (1M is almost certainly 1m, given that you have to be almost !@#$ touching another ship for it to read 1). The planetary stats seem to be listed just to give the game a slight feeling of realism without dishout out the goods.

@Artic: let's not start ANOTHER antf*ck discussion on their anatomy, and dedicate this thread to black hole editing instead, m'kay?
