**Challenge to hardcore modders**
I visit this forum pretty much every other day on average, and have notice what a very hard working mod community there is for this game.
Here's a challenge (or more of a question) for you all to work on.
Figure out what your upper limits are for modifying this game. Are you able to affect the game engine? Are you able to do total conversion type mods? What is hardcoded and cannot be changed, and what is hardcoded but can be changed?
What are you limited to as far as physics in the space environment in this game? Are you limited to JUST ships? Would GEARS be possible to create? Would they work with the gravity effects? Are you able to change this environment?
Planets, are you able to change the physics and environment on a planet? Would inserting a first-person mode be possible at all?
