Problems docking with bases and trade lanes

I was wondering if there was a way to edit the docking speed.
I upped my speed to 500 and it works great, but docking is
insane!! It took over 10 tries last night.
Any suggestions.

try to reduce your speed before docking?

i was flying with a cruiser that had 990 *normal* speed (not cruise engine) and had no problems...

maybe its because i use the docking command not before im in the position right before the ring/dock.

Thanks for the suggestion.
To claify, the main problem is with bases when the bastards drag your ship to
another docking bay. I could grab dinner and watch a DVD and I would still never
land, because they cannot line me up or something other stupid reason.
I was just hoping to modify the cruise speed.
