modelling question regarding file types accepted

I'm looking to start making some new ships for freelancer, however sense im just starting with this modding idea for this game i have to consider what file types are acceptable and what the threshold for converting to the right file might be. Im good with modelling with lightwave(5.6 & 7.0) and was curious if .lwo is a acceptable format. I havent dove into the freelancer files to see if there were a particular file type i would be familiar with. I have modding experence for a game called klingon academy, so i have made startrek style ships, and some custom ships of my own. But seeing that freelancer ships seem to have a much higher poly count, that makes me happy sense KA had a hefty limit on poly count.
let me know thx.

i have no clue, but is "lightwave" a decent program? i am looking for a program to use....even if it cant do freelancer ships, thats not the only thing i want it for

also, you have star trek ships modeled, huh? do you have this one by chance?

omg... thats a nice ship, its been awhile sense iv seen nemisis(sp). But i could give it a try, but its a little to complex i think. Also it wouldnt feel right to have the ship without that nice cloaking animation ;-). hmmm would it be able to fly threw the trade lane rings? 0.o lol. I hope i get a response, i know alot of people out there are making some ships for Freelancer, so i need to know so i can get started. It'll be a little strange with the Startrek ships, because youll have weapon mounts on the ships... And im not sure if Freelancer would be ok with weapon mounts inside the model, for say the Enterprise's torp tubes. Just a interesting thought lol

nice ship i must say very detailed.

Currently acceptable model formate is in FL .cmp file formate. You will need to import your lightwave model into milkshape 3d and convert it into .cmp file for use in FL. One thing to note is that milkshape 3d max out at around 7-8000 faces and around same number of vertices.

read the sticky on HCl's millkshape 3D exporter for more information.

great info thx. Im looking at milkshape now, very interesting prog. I hope that theres no quality loss from lightwave . is it true that milkshape was made to create hl models?? very interesting stuff..
