Sc_open_baydoor

Looking in utf editor at liberty dreadnought, i notice sc_open_baydoor. If someone writes a script to allow using of that command, I think i may have found a way for dreadnoughts and other cap ships to open there bays so that other ships can come inside. The other ships probably wont be able to dock, but they can hide inside the larger ship. Now to find a way to make multiple bays so that a capship can have multiple bays....

That one can be done without opening the code. Junking any item in space i.e. scrap metal, boron and so forth will open the doors.

Something intresting to note though is, what happens when the larger cap ship tries to enter a Jumpgate while the smaller ship is still inside?

I have gotten stuck in bases when they open the docks to let other ships in, sometimes I'm forced to load a saved game because I couldn't get out. So having the same problem as your friend drives around the galaxy isn't my idea of fun.

I bet as the capship moves, it'll make the smaller ship ram around, simular to shaking a box with something inside of it, hehe.

I have already got past that problem, in fact i can get my friend to dock his fighter to my capship but the problem is, theres no base for him to go to so the game crashes.

I tracked the problem to this.

I can add a base but only in the system ini can you actually make something point to that base.

i.e.
universe\systems\li01\li01.ini
every planet, station, dockable thing has to point to a base, since you are a mobile player capship, you cant put yourself in there. At least i have not found out how to.

Seems so many things seem possible, but we need more modding tools right now.

troop, I have the impression that it can be done (I mean docking with cap ship). I don't know how exactly but it might be possible...somehow. Apparently, there are 2 kinds of solar entities: static and dynamic. Static ones are defined in <systemname>.ini files. Dynamic ones were used in SP compaign. They were created on the run. Eg. on that planet where the female scientist was, the docking ring was blown up. It was dynamic. Also I found that some bases are defined in(damn, I am sitting behind other pc right now, forget the name).. anyway, it was either killablesolars.ini or missioncreatedsolars.ini. What if you try and define your virtual base there instead of universe.ini?

This is not much help, I realize, but oh well..

Well i doubt it can be done at all without some serious modding of the hardcoded stuff.

You can make the AI do pretty much anything you want in SP using triggers and stuff, but you cant.

If you open up the universe.ini you can add a base, either create or use reference to another existing base, that part can be done.

Open up the actual system ini like li01.ini, everything you can dock with like planets and dockable stations and battleships are defined as spawned [Object
and they have specific position coordinates and then references to dock with a base. If you create an [Object and put dock references, you are just basically creating something. I dont think there is a way to define yourself as an object, because its not meant to be used that way.

You can try if you want, i can give you my rh_battleship, and the ini files for it. If you have a LAN you can try and figure out a solution.

Is it possible to make a system that you cannot get to(no jumpgates or jumpholes to it) and make it so when you dock with the PC capship, u get sent inside a base in the unaccesible system and when you choose to exit the base, you exit out of the PC capships main doors????

So far as i know docking with a player controlled ship would not do anything. It has to be defined somewhere when you set the base up. It has to be given a certain point... It is possible to say make the Planet Manhatten docking ring link up with like Pittsburg... but anything that moves/is PCed is probably not gonna be easy at all. you can just stuff yourself in the bay doors which is always fun seeing as you can hide from enemy ships in there and shoot things as they randomly leave the base...

Moo like a duck...well...a big duck but still.

This would be a useful thing if you had to do something you could pop into your friends battleship while you ate or something

Me and my cousin just did this and it is no good. I was in a starflier and he had the Osiris Battleship and i managed to get inside the bay and stay. But when he moved it shot me out real quick and far away from him. So even though it may open it is not helpful at all.
