Creating IDS Numbers

Allright,

I was a big time modder for the Infinity Engine, the engine used to create Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2 and all the expansion packs for those games. We finally came up with a tool that was used to add to what was known in that engine as the *.key file, or the equivalant to the *.DLL that contains the IDS numbers for Freelancer.

I would like to know if anyone has been working on creating a program that allows you to add IDS numbers to the correct *.DLL. If we could add our own IDS numbers to the game, then we could change the name, description, and any in game text that we wanted to.

Maybe someone has already done this, and if so, where can i find the program?

All I can say is that it is perfectly possible to add or alter entries in the dll's with programs like resHack or (if you're lucky enough to own it) MS Visual Studio.

I for my part have all my descriptions, names ect. in separate custom dll's which I inserted into the freelancer.ini right after the original dll's. I didn't make the dll's, though. A friend of mine who actually own MS Visual Studio .Net (thanks to his occupation as some kind of programmer) helped me out and did them for me.
So I don't know exactly how much work it is to make them.

Currently the only way to input new ids info is by way of a new dll file i am currently writing a guide on how to do this and all the programs you need to do it right. This is of course if your wanting to ADD completly new ships/equipment into the game.

If you want to simply edit the info you need only res hacker & bini.

Look for this post ***Tutorial*** Adding new ships and infocards as dll *** Complete***

Its not complete i have just had a major revelation into the inner workings of the game slightly and instead of 2 dll's i can now compile everythign into a single dll i am documenting this now and also updating my tutorial as soon as i have finished.

But the guide there will help you on your way till then
