XP problem

I am attempting to make a mod in windows XP. However, I have a problem. Basically, I can't figure out how to turn my Text Document (.txt) files back into .ini files (which XP calls "configuration settings files). This is probably a really stupid question, but I would appreciate any help.
Thanks

Have you tried to just rename them?

example: shiparch.ini.txt -> shiparch.ini

that should be all that you have to do.... works for me, and I'm using XP also.

T448 ... out.

that's the problem.... it doesn't have a .txt or a .ini on the end

fixed it..... to fix it, you must have both ini and txt files show their extensions. To do this, go to control panels, folder options. Then go to file types. Scroll down until you find TXT, and select it. Go to advanced and check the "show extension" box. Do the same for INI.

i've seen several treads on this very topic since i've been looking at these forums.
I'm amazed that some people still have "hide file extensions" turned on.
And the way you did it is kinda weird.
go to Folder Options, View tab, and untick "Hide file extensions for know file types"
