Help adding new items & ships ect please

Okie i am trying to compile as much info as possible from this forum i am unclear on a few things wondering if anyone would be good enough to help out and fill me in on a few points i seem to be pulling up blanks on.

Adding New Ships, i am quite confused by this ids fields, firstly does this mean i can create a new version of a ship by editing the shiparch.ini and say copying and editing data to create the new version? If so wouldnt using the same ids fields cause errors ingame?

If you have to create ids refrence for the ship how is this done?

I seem to have similiar stumbling blocks with items too, but i am guessing that the same rule must apply to each "new item" you wish to add to the game? Trying to create some new thruster classes, i can edit the exsisting ones ok but adding new ones i again draw a blank on how this is done properally.

If anyone could possibly explain or link me to somewhere that does explain this i would be very grateful. Have spent all day looking over this forum for answers hopefully some one out there will be able to shed some light for me and other newbie modders

Lemme be a bit clearer on where abouts i am stuck

lets take the defender for example (237033 "Defender"

Say i wish to create a better class of this ship with enhanced cargo, hull, bots, batts.

Editing shiparch.ini can make this possible for the basic model, where i am stuck is not the editing of the info (well not yet anyways) but the actual adding of the new one without overridding the old version.

I have the same issue with the New thruster model i am designing too, as in i can replace an exsisting thruster simply by editing but actually adding i am lost.

There are alot of helpful guides here on how to add new stuff to the market wondering if anyone could make it a little clearer for me.

Okie well on the way to cracking this now.

so far thnaks to peoples posts on the forumm i have managed to create new nameresources dll file with fighters name, edited the anubis to add extra cargo bots and batts top speed and also its handling (now handles like lightfighter this needs modding to something a little heaver methingks lol), extract the xml infocards, and replace the orignal infocards.

New stuck point if anyone can help here : new infocards dll, or adding new data to infocards.dll (orignal) and correct refrencing so far tryign to add new data to the dll hasnt done anything at all and same prob with the new dll.

any chance of you doing the same thing for the liberty cruiser, i want to use that ship in singleplayer without the game crashing whenever an AI cruiser is supposed to appear

i cant see why not i have tried the rhienland and osiris mods both work fine and the osiris is a mighty fine ship (esp if you mod the flight so it handles better) havent tried liberty cruiser yet will let ya know

Zen, do you think you could be really nice and do a little tutorial on how you added the new ship?? please? just for us out there who have absolutely no idea.
