Why server generated designations? Can it be user select?
Every time you join your favorite server you are assigned a designation in the order of availability. (: Alpha 1, Alpha 2) Which is then dubbed together from several different sound files to create what you hear like, "I'm taking on Freelancer Alpha 2".. Next time you join the server you may be assigned the designation (Alpha 4-1) and the computer would say "I'm taking on Freelancer Alpha 4-1"...
My question is.. Why is this a server side generated designation when you join the server? Why can't you pick and choose your own designation when creating your character or joining the server?. Can it be modded that way?
The computer voices would be capable of calling you "Freelancer Black 3-2" right now if that was your designation. The computer is already equipped with the sound hooks "Black", "3", and "2". And the comp has the ability to put all that together into one sentence.
The only problem is.. The server assigns you a number and your not allowed to choose you own. But if you could somehow hack your designation to "Yellow 1".. I guarantee right now that all NPC's would call you "Freelancer Yellow 1"
This is probably a hard coded issue.. But who's the genius that made such a dynamic sound system and left out the ability to allow users to interact with it. It would just be nice if this was more interactive I guess.

Right now i think it starts with Alpha 1 and works it's way up.. Meaning the first person to join the server is assigned to Alpha 1.. The next guy is Alpha 2 and so on.. And from what i've heard so far in the game. I do believe this designation system can go way into the hundreds.
It's really quite fascinating to me.. But probably not so popular to all the "i want to increase my armor" peeps round here. =
