i recently had some network problems w/ freelancer;i couldn't connect to my own server - i worked on it almost every night, trying some new combination of network/lan/router settings and eventually i got it(turned out all i had to do was set my LAN's gateway the same as the router's).technical help on this kind of stuff is sad - theres no real dictionary for decoding the technobabble in the router settings etc other than just googling each setting and cludging together some theories. i believe you can get your network problem untangled too if you keep trying and don't lose hope

I had that same prob. it was due to a firewall that had come as an extra with the internet package.

The router, linksys, is a good one, but without a DSL/cable modem, it won't even continue with the install. So, till I ever decide to upgrade to DSL, not liklt, then I am out of luck. I e-mailed Linksys (Cisco) about it for help, they said without cable/DSL, it would not work.

of course it won't flupping work, it needs a cable/dsl modem to act as a dhcp server on the other side of the NAT. How the flup can the adapters aquire dynamic Ips if there's nowt serving them up? Name of the Prophet! (pbuh) all you had to was put two concurrent IP addresses and subnet masks into your local connection TCP/IP properties after disabling dhcp aquirement. If your going to use a crossover to network two PCs together you have to use static IP addressing. Flup, it's a right old mess now innit?

why didn't you just get a hub or switch? <bangs head on table> tell me what model your Linksys router is, we might be able to disable the routing function and just use it as a network switch without the NAT and set up a range of IP addresses which you can access even without a fluppin dhcp server (dsl modem to you Birdman.) You can use ICS to share your gwaggy paleolithic Esquilax Technologies 14.4kbps modem, which no doubt has a provenance commensurate with your neo-biblical appearance (ie it's prob out of the fluppin' Ark)

I see the Esquilax-derived technical support proved as successful as ever? No wonder he spent two years unemployed! Typhon must warp instructions from english into gibberish, then with the added interference from your beard on reception, it's no wonder it's all gone south.

I tink you'd better e-mail me for instructions, and make sure you fluppin' do exactly what i tell you to do, and Uncle Taw will long-distance fix (again)
