Firing from concealment ***possible spoiler***

I'm sure a lot of people have discovered this but I haven't seen a post on it, so...

when I am out of shields and nanos and still have 5 bandits on my tail, sometimes I hide inside a jump gate. Somehow they can't shoot me if I'm in the right spot. But -- as they fly around outside they sometimes come into my line of sight. If I can see them I should be able to shoot them. I just haven't managed to torque my fighter around to the right angle to let fly a couple rounds. Has anybody else fired on bandits from inside a jump gate? (I know, I know, it's cowardly...) And incidentally I waited an hour for the cops to show up but they couldn't get through the gate because I was blocking it myself!

I haven't tried this yet. What I know is effective is rather gutsy, but beneficial. If you can get yourself close enough to a planet (that is, hull on fire, but just before you actually blow up) you become invisible to the scanners of AI ships. They will break off attacks and fly away. Just be sure you've got good shields before attempting this, because it can take a while to get into the right position.

J Dawg: Wow, that IS gutsy! I never would have thought of that.
I'll have to practice skimming the outer layers of the atmosphere
to create a disturbance that blocks the enemy sensors from picking me up.
That could come in real handy if I get jumped next to a planet with no docking facilities.

Personally, I like flying around the planet, barely skimming the atmo, and causing the escorts to fly into it. Once they're dead you only have to deal with a couple of baddies.
