From the desk of....

A message from me. I came to this site the first time, looking for freelancer game ideas, and little after that, mods. Then I joined and asked a question in discussion. I asked if anyone had built an Enterprise D ship for the game. I had played the enterprise show ship and liked it. I was told first, wrong forum. Second, I was defended by another as not knowing, I was new. At first, I thought it was just another site on the Internet.

I hung around for awhile, and noticed different type names and began checking profiles and discovered people from different countries posting here. That made my day. I had a way to meet people from different countries with out having to travel there. Thus began the silly sometimes questions, what do you like, or where are you from, etc. type questions. I asked them, not to start a thread, but I wanted to know more about the people posting here. I had an image of people in my mind. Now, I needed to add to it.

Threads have filled in a lot. We have threads of real names, faces, food we like, cars we like, etc. The picture is more complete. What can not be put in, always, is the feeling of the person, the personality. It was posted in another thread, that some who post here, are totally different than the on-line personality. I liked to dig a little deeper to learn more. And guess what, I met people I liked, though, different culturally, different likes , different personalities. Some who liked my stories, some who don’t, some who rarely post in my threads.

I have had conversations in threads with some, at the time, and did not know they were only 10, 11, or 14 years old, others that were closer to or older than myself. Wisdom comes with time and is not in a set age group. I have spoke with an 18 year old that seems to have more wisdom than I could hope to have. Not everyone is on the same page of ideas in life. But, that does not stop me from wanting to hear them out. There are areas in life that I am completely inflexible in my opinion, but that has not stopped me from hearing an opposing point of view, or wanting to understand why someone has that point of view.

All this said, the forums, are an area that can take you to distant places and people, different than yourselves, or very much alike. Take advantage of that. Explore, learn things and hold the things you like, and leave those you disagree with. Take advantage of the opportunity, you may not get later in life. Maybe, you will make a life long friend in the process.

I to am amazed sometime when I find out that the person I am chatting with is pretty mature for 13 or 14yrs. old, or seems to fun loving and youthful for 60yrs.

i met a guy in a modding forum and agreed to help him with his mod. Now were friends and talk alot on MSN, we even made a small modding "company" called Stoners Guild. The name might seem a bit offensive to some people but once u get to know us you'll se were just normal people like u who have the desire to mod games.
If anyone would like to check our site got to SGP

Know exactly what you mean Finalday, I found the same during the 2 years I played Earth and Beyond, even tho you aren't playing a game or talking in realtime in a forum there's still a sence of community with a site such as this, and a game that is pretty much loved by all who visit, I ran across this site quite a while back while looking for some sort of expansion or anything related to Freelancer, I was amazed at what I found here but never posted in any forums.
Now I'm here at least once a day just to check whats new, and read the forums.
I guess now I should start posting heh

50yrs Growing older is manditory, growing up is another thing altogether

Hesitation is weakness ! oh wait that was a different game

I must agree that the forums (and the internet in general) is great way to meet people, make friends, and learn of other cultures.

I had a great experience. I actually met a guy that I now consider my best friend just from being online. He lives in Melbourne, Australia and I in the USA. We got to know each other very well and I finally arranged to meet him. I flew to Melbourne and spent a week there. It was an amazing experience. To this day, we still talk on the phone once a week. Because of the internet, this planet has no borders.

Regards,
Gary

SATANIST, his post was near a year ago, he apears to not even have posted here since then. So the logic of the link no longer working would hold.
